Xbox 360 Freezing Issue

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don't want a new George Foreman grill. I want a game console that has good games.

How are those HD DVD's working out for you? :p And what game are you playing right now that is your favorite? Or are you not able to play games on your awesome console that has good games? ;)

It doesn't matter. Mine wasn't either. It's fairly common for Microsoft to fix RROD issues regardless of warranty status. If you get the RROD, go to microsoft support, start the troubleshooter, and put in your microsoft console ID. They'll tell you right then whether or not you need to pay for it to be fixed.

My console was 3 years past it's warranty, and all I had to pay was shipping.

I have it's all 99.99.

How'd you like missing two great episodes of GTA, Fable series, left 4 dead series, mass effect, ect? How'd you like missing out on them?

The 360 was never HD DVD ready, they did make a thing for it though. It's more economical then blu ray, but that's for another thread.

Gour it's out of warranty and if I don't have to buy a new one. I don't really want to. I'm not sure what you recommend here, but let me know. I'm not really sure what the hell an x-clamp is.

If your box has a mfg date before 2007 then your probably rocking a Xenon box, which are tremendously prone to failure. My suggestion would be to do the towel trick first, and see if that helps. If that doesn't work, you'll need to open your box, and try some overheating pseudo-reflow tricks.. If that fails, well, you can still fix the box. I can instruct you on how to reflow your xbox, and it'll cost you roughly $25 in stuff from home depot.

Try the towel trick first, and tell me if that works. If not, get ready to open your 360.

I don't want to break my 360, I'd much prefer fixing it.

Heh.. Trust me, you won't break it by doing the towel trick once or twice... I'd recommend starting with that first and seeing if it resolves the problem.. The results from the towel trick can help you further diagnose the problem and ultimately fix..

Btw, an x-clamp is the X-shaped clamp that applies tension to the heatsinks. Some PC designs not too long ago used x-clamp design schemes; my server pc here (Dual LGA 771) uses a similar design however with a much sturdier backplate rather than a flimsy "x-clamp."

When I say "you'll need to x-clamp" that means, you'll need to replace the x-clamp on your 360 with something that provides more tension and will not allow as much space between the ball grid array of the GPU and the lands on the motherboard. This creates a better connection between the two components and can usually mitigate cracked solder joints. To go even farther, one re-flows the chips on the 360 motherboard, allows them to cool somewhat, then while the board is still warm, apply the x-clamp replacement method. This is how I fix almost every 360 that comes my way. Reflow -> x-clamp. 90% of the time the system is fixed, usually permanently.
