So if I'm a casual gamer who likes to use lots of multi-media is XBONE for me? Going to be buying one of the two systems this summer.
My thoughts on this as someone who has both systems:
-The TV control is awesome. I love being able to change channels with voice commands. It got a little iffy when Time Warner changed all my channels, but it fixed itself after a couple of weeks when everything got updated. It's also great that my parents don't have to figure out my multiple remotes when they visit. :chuckles:
-Personally, I find that the media apps on Xbone run a bit smoother and faster than on the PS4. It's not as bad as the difference between the 360 and the PS3, but my PS4 definitely suffers from more buffering than my Xbone. I mean, it's not a huge deal, but I
always rent movies or stream video on my Xbone unless I already have my PS4 on.
-Neither system supports streaming media from your PC, sadly, so it's a wash there.
-Regarding games it's basically a wash right now. Both systems have some solid downloadable games and both systems have a couple of good exclusives. The PS4 probably has the best overall with Second Son, but beyond that it doesn't have much else that isn't a smaller, downloadable title. The Xbone has a couple of solid exclusives, albeit nothing spectacular if you remove Titanfall (which is also on the PC).
-Personally, I still love the voice commands the Xbone offers. I still use them frequently too, and I totally thought I would grow bored with them over time. They almost become second nature after a while. Saying "Xbox pause" to pause a movie when you have to get up to take a piss or grab a beer is just liberating. The Kinect is overall pretty pointless, but the voice commands are just great and I use them all the time.
-One big bonus on the PS4 is the monthly free game. I've already downloaded four or five games since launch. Of course, you need to buy a PS+ subscription, but whatever. You'll do that anyways if you're going to play anything online. I know Microsoft has a similar program, but they have yet to implement it on the Xbone, so they don't receive any points for it.
So right now, I'd probably lean Xbone. The problem is that, in my opinion, the PS4 has more potential. If you're using media more than gaming, I'd probably stick with Microsoft. The PS4 definitely has the higher ceiling from a pure gaming perspective, but I don't think Sony will match up with Microsoft from a network/media perspective this generation. They've made strides, but not quite enough of them. It still takes about twice as long to download a file of a similar size on the PS4 than it does on the Xbone, at least in my experience.
