ESPN Suing The Ohio State University

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Hey, ESPN has to do something, right? I mean, with two leagues in lockout and Jeter already hitting his 3000th hit, what else is there to do or talk about?

Much more serious violations at schools like Oregon or Auburn...or UNC?

Nah, probly not.

Oregon won't be touched because of Nike. I bet some will also turn a blind eye to this.

I really didn't think tOSU would be touched because of them being such a cash cow, but they are going to get screwed pretty hard.

If tOSU didn't spend the past six months publicly acting like they are very poorly hiding something, ESPN wouldn't be going to such lengths to get to the bottom of the story.

:chuckles:

Don't know what to tell you, b00bie. This is journalism in the 21st century. If a popular entity seems to be hiding something, journalists go to every measure to reveal another layer of what is being hidden.

I've talked to reputable sources on the Ohio State situation, and all of them give me some version of "the truth." Their versions vary depending on their agenda. Ohio State coaches want new recruits to believe that everything is being blown out of proportion and this should all blow over soon. Coaches at other schools said that Ohio State is covering something up, and what has taken place since the "We support Tressel" press conference seems to indicate that those coaches might have had a good point.

If the NCAA isn't even close to being sure what the punishment will be, I don't trust any "inside source" who sounds too confident either way.

I really can't stand "the" cocky OSU, that being said, this is ridiculous. I don't care what info corporate ESPN gets or not, who do you think pays for this suing? The public, not OSU officials.

Can we boycott ESPN already?

Well, OSU is a public institution so it has an obligation to the public to put out any and all information it can on any issue that is presented to it. It should do so in as honest and forthcoming way as possible. Did OSU do all of that over the past year?

Your answer to that determines why companies like ESPN will do what they are doing. As much as I dislike EPSN greatly; why? .. because they are owned by James...... I dislike the way OSU has handled a simple tattoo fiasco from the beginning. It could have been real easy and Tressel would still be the head coach. Instead, it's been very difficult with the biggest obstacle being OSU themselves.

This is from Jim Lynch, Director of Media Relations.

Justine - Do to FERPA, we will not be releasing e-mails from Jim Tressel, Doug Archie or
Gene Smith related to Ted Saryniak.

"Do to FERPA"???

That said, this pretty fucking lame on ESPN's part. Not sure why they would do this unless they were sure that there's a "blue dress" out there. My guess is that it's an email proving prior knowledge by Gee and Smith.

Couple questions that I have...

-Why the hell does the Supreme Court have jurisdiction?
-If OSU is citing the FERPA defense how are they going to explain sharing info on a student with Sarniak, but not ESPN? Please don't say b/c he's TP's mentor...that's irrelevant.

Can't wait for this whole nightmare to be over. As if an NFL and NBA lockout weren't enough...

Pretty sure that OSU is not the first school that ESPN has sued for similar reasons.

One of the best listens I've ever heard. He absolutely destroys ESPN, and is 100% on target in everything he says. It's a sham Cam Newton wasn't pressed by ESPN. It's a sham Texas wasn't raked through the coals after Colt McCoy's wife states all sorts of Texas players received illegal benefits. It's a sham that Oregon received about 2 days of scrutiny and ESPN has now moved on.

ESPN doesn't like leaving 5 billion in profit on the table and being made to look like asses...which is what Delaney did to them. Now, as LeCharles put it, "they're trying to shoot the stallion in the head behind the barn".

Fair enough...I get it. I just wish the casual fan wasn't such a sucker to what they were viewing.

There has been plenty of writers nationally openly questioning the University's claim of privacy laws concerns. Literally, the documentation that could kill the University is being judged to be private in nature by the University. It is legit to question that. How would you feel if these e-mails contain Gene Smith acknowledging knowledge of the tattoo scandal to Sarniak?

I get that everyone feels like the University has been beat up enough. But seriously, this is legit for ESPN to do.

so youre saying i should be able to access most politicians emails just by asking?

Did you see where I said…."Not saying its right, but whatever"

Thought I would add some input other then the ESPN sucks…yay OSU comments…my bad.

FUCK ESPN….BUNCH OF FUCKING FAGGOTS….

is that better?
