@Mavaliersfan keep them coming. You are getting better.

No don't. There's a separate thread for wild trade ideas for this very reason. Keep the pipe dreams separate from where actual prospects and news updates about the draft are discussed. Thanks.

Who shut down the artist in you when you were younger? :(

@Mavaliersfan by keep them coming obviously take it to the other thread. And even then, be careful.

Don't poke the bear. Shitty day to get temp-ban. Let staff keep the fantasy trades separate, like we have for over a decade. You are welcome for my dedication to excellence.

Gotcha...

Didn't realize I was poking the bear. My bad.

No worries, I tend to post a number of humorous posts and then get stuck putting on my admin hat, I understand most people can't tell when I'm switching hats.

Anyways, I'm curious to see if Dan Gilbert tries to buy another second round pick this year. While Lacob in Golden State has made it an annual tradition, Gilbert only pulled the trigger once, going after his little buddy Kay Felder. This draft is much deeper than the 2016 draft and buying a pick could produce one hell of a sleeper to develop.

Note taken. I'll pay closer attention to the threads. I just think we're gonna need one of these pipe dreams to come true if we intend to keep Bron. Remember how crazy the trade deadline was. Cavs went into 2K mode. It could happen again, but I'll save that discussion for the right thread.

If the Cavs keep the pick I’d be really happy with Mikal Bridges (assuming nobody crazy drops to #8). If LeBron were to stay MB can easily play off of him and learn from him. He could also come in and replace JR. If LeBron bolts he can still play and have impact right away and get in-game reps. He is a safe pick and can be a starting 3 & D player as his floor. With the right coaching and development program, we would need to get rid of Lue, he could develop into a team’s best defensive player and a reliable option on offense - basically a Robin. If LeBron is to leave we can swing for the fences for a Batman/superstar in a future draft. This would take a few season, but given the time to bulk up mixed with MB’s work ethic, this is something that wouldn’t really surprise me. I think he would be a great building block as the #8 pick.

I would also be okay with Bamba, JJJ, or Carter. They are also guys that could play with LeBron or be building blocks for the future with their unicorn potential.

MPJ and the point guards I’d prefer to stay away from. MPJ’s back injury is a red flag and even if he does fully recover and lives up to his potential, he seems like the kind of player who would force his way out of Cleveland for a bigger market/to team up with other players (ala Carmelo Anthony, Kyrie, Kevin Durant). The PG position is a dime a dozen in the league and I think we could find a good PG in the G-League/Free Agency/future drafts.

I like Mikal but 3&D guys can be developed with good coaching or found with good scouting late in the draft.

But you can't develop genuine playmakers and shotmakers. And, this team desperately needs a playmaker and shotmaker. Even if LeBron stays, we only have him as the genuine playmaker who could dribble penetrate. That isn't ideal at all. So, give me someone like a Shai or MPJ if our medical staff thinks his back isn't completely fucked or a big like Mo or JJJ who can come in and immediately elevate our defense.

I agree, but unfortunately we don’t have the best coaching or scouting to find it later in the draft. I just think Mikal could develop himself into so much more and with his floor it’s worth the risk at #8. He can hit the open three, move without the ball, and play solid defense. He’s an upgrade over JR (not that Lue would play MB over JR, but wishful thinking). I personally don’t see Bamba or JJJ dropping, but would be cool with them if they were there and we took them.

The issue I see with taking one these point guards is that I don’t see LeBron or Lue trusting a rookie to run the show and there is an adjustment period for rookies to get caught up to the speed of the NBA. Also they take the ball out of LeBron’s hands and without being an established shot maker or playmaker at this level, it bails out the opposing defense. And on the defense side of the ball none of the top 3 guards are really projected to be great defenders and won’t help our already horrible defense. With that said I’d rather find a veteran/late pick who could just run the offense, make the right pass, hit an open three, and be a pest on defense. If LeBron stays I think we make a trade for someone who is a playmaker/scorer (i.e. Kemba, CJ).
