Larry Drew - Cavaliers Acting Head Coach

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
larry drew wants you guys to practice making your tank post in the tank thread. Larry has Coached his team to a winning record in 3 out of 4 seasons as a head coach and has won a playoff series.
this team is far superior to what he had in milwaukee

You were saying? he sucks lol we don't run any plays the only games we win is when our guys make ridiculous shots going 1v1

Blatt would have this team at a much better record god I miss that guy

Would it be too much to ask to run some kind of offensive system...what I watched last night was nauseating. When the ball goes to Hood or Clarkson just forget about it,,all they do is take the ball make some stumbling bumbling moves to the hoop and throw up a shot while everyone else stands around. I'm afraid Sexton is picking up some of this crap. I saw Harrison just going one on one as well more than a couple times,,what a joke. Love watching the games but I'm going to struggle to watch this playground shit. And for the love of god could they practice throwing the ball into the post...truly ridiculous. Sorry had to vent.

It’s insane I remember when I was in middle school we’d run somebody basic horns/flex, these guys run nothing I dunno if Drew is lazy, the players are just too stupid or maybe some of both. These guys are meant to be in the top 500 players in the world and apparently a top 30 coach in the world. And we really can’t do better then this?

Like how hard is it to add plays? Can't each assistant take a group of players and just work on a play to build up the playbook. Basic plays to our bigs just don't even seem to be in the playbook. I don't think I've seen an alley-oop or high handoffs to Nance from Sexton ever.

I've got to say this again, this guy is Byron Scott 2.0. We have completely punted on this season developmentally, outside of showing guys off for trades. Treading water coaches are always bad and never work.

We're going to have to start from scratch with a new coach next year, and are not really going to be able to carry anything useful over.

You are right, Larry Drew is a place holder. He might be a place holder that sticks around for another year though if the front office feels like the team needs another high draft pick. However on the developmental side, there seems to be a lot of development effort, but out here on the internet, it's just waves crashing against unrealistic fan expectations for Sexton, Osman and Zizic. The coach played him too much when he wasn't ready & broke his confidence, or the coach played him too little and left him wasting on the pine, yada yada yada. Most of the development takes place in the gym and in the film room and we don't see that. The fact is that out side of a few "can't fail" prospects, most young NBA players don't pan out and there's not much coaches can do about it if the GM signed guys that won't pan out.

So our young players suck and our front office/coaches are geniuses who never do anything wrong. Ok.

Why so much negativity towards Drew? I just checked the standings and he is clearly doing an excellent job. Maybe give him a 2 year extension? Then 3 years from now we can be semi-relevant again with a new coach.

Let's just hope that when Love come backs, Drew makes sure to give him a 50% usage rate....

The big failure of the FO was settling on Drew IMO. He doesn’t have incentive to develop players. He has been forced to play younger guys, due to a combination of injuries and trades but he really only cares about getting a last coaching job.

Collin is the specific case where I think it really blows a hole in any argument that Drew or staff are doing anything on the PD side. He’s not adjusting what he’s doing on offense at all. He’s continuing to take the same shots and make the same decisions.....and defensively, he’s not being held accountable. I can’t imagine that would be the case if the staff were making a compelling argument as to what he should be doing and following through when he doesn’t do it.

I get the idea is to lose here but there are degrees of it.....and I personally just don’t see the fruits of any development efforts, if they are actually being made.

It took Delly to come aboard to actually start running back doors to Clarkson,,as AC says "they get one of those every game"...the offense is a joke and it looks like the offense my 9th grade team ran where everyone just freelanced with no set structure or ability to run any kind of set play.
I don't mind watching bad basketball but this is a frigging joke.

That's not what I was saying. What I was saying is that most you prospects don't develop, regardless of the coach, and that few coaches get a big role in deciding who the team signs.

There's lots of stuff wrong right now. People can hate on the teams play calling all they want. Much of it is deserved. There's no genius coaching going on right now and average or even good coaching talent isn't going to overcome the weak talent. As Sam Ritigliano says , "the jockey doesn't carry the horse across the finish line". Just to translate in case that's not clear, when a team is losing, it is usually because the players just are not that good. I think that's a fair assessment right now.

Another cute saying is "The cream rises to the top". That is to say, if the young prospects on the team were good, the team would do better when they are on the floor. Consider when Delly joined the team in 2013, he had great plus/minus on a weak team. Why? Delly is/was a good player and he climbed to the top of the garbage pile pretty quickly. He might be a role player, but he was a good player. Just that simple.

Sexton & Osman look like boat anchors right now. These guys have been losing games at a fantastic pace of the last two months. It's probably time to start reevaluating their ceiling.
