Yea I actually feel pretty badly about mine. Not exactly much prestige. It just works so well for me and my schedule. People judge you on what you do, and hard. Telling people requires some obfuscation, qualifying it with "i have an accounting degree but", and i have to really go out of my way to imply that it makes a lot more than you'd think.
I don't want to talk about it at all. People think you're a dumb piece of shit and pussy dries up so fast if you're not white collar.
I am “white collar.” Frankly, I can’t stand my work. I’m bored it and when I start describing it to people I get bored and want to change the subject. I can’t stand the person in charge of our division. I do love my customers.
But...it’s not a fit for me anymore.
In talking to people, I’d venture to guess well over half of people don’t love what they do for a living and aren’t excited about it. If I could do something for a living I was excited about or at minimum felt rewarded by and was in control of...it would contribute to my self esteem. As is, my job is the only thing in my life right now that is damaging it.
