2019 Series #34 | Indians @ Royals | July 25th, 26th, 27th, and 28th

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I see nothing wrong with it. Dude was pissed and we all know how Bauer is. He apologized to everyone, face to face on the team.
The dude gives a shit and fucked up. He owned it, move on.
Nothing wrong with it? Be a damn professional baseball player. These guys are role models and that was extremely immature.

Trade this head case for a bat.

One of those doesn't belong in your list.

What he did was the very definition of childish. I've played and watched a lot of baseball and have only ever seen something remotely like that from an actual child.

Frankly, that's taking it easy on him.

Pretending that behavior was even remotely normal or acceptable is a further insult to his teammates and coaches.
Not to mention 2 things:

1. Half those things weren’t even said
2. There is a large difference between what fans post on their free time on a message board and how a professional acts at his job

I’m willing to bet most people here don’t throw tantrums at their job. I know at my job it wouldn’t go over well. And there have been plenty of times I’ve wanted to go off

Half those things weren’t even said

I mean, all of them were. But sure

Fuck Trevor Bauer.

Hit the showers Bauer. Scrub.

We almost have to trade him now.

Yeah, I got a lot of hate the past two seasons for saying I didn't like Bauer because he's a mental midget when things aren't going his way. When he was good, we all put up with it, myself included. When he gets absolutely shelled by a shit team and then embarrasses the team like he just did, he can go fuck himself.

If this is referring to me, it's not me defending Bauer. It's me pointing out that people are saying extremely negative things in the heat of the amount about one of the team's best player, who reacted poorly in the heat of the moment. That's ironic.

Including child in my list was an oversight.
Should’ve quoted the post, but it was the one that said Bauer is different and that’s ok. I think that’s minimizing it.

I’m glad he apologized, but he has a track record of acting pretty immaturely (admittedly it’s not always on the field). show you’re actually sorry by learning from it and showing better composure.

From the game story in the PD:

Before Francona emerged from the dugout, Bauer chucked a baseball into the netting behind home plate, apparently dissatisfied with the condition of the ball. When the 28-year-old righty saw Francona approach he spun on the mound and flung the second ball high over Mercado’s head and off the green brick wall 440 feet from home plate.

I kinda like that Bauer cares so much. Not to make an excuse for what he did. But at least he came out, apologized. Which is good enough for me.

From the club web site, a snippet from a story on the throw:

In 1991, Cincinnati reliever Rob Dibble launched a ball into the center-field stands, which resulted in a four-game suspension and a fine.

Facing up to your mistakes is good, but millions have/will watch the video while only a small fraction
will pay attention to the apology. Bauer will hear about it from fans around the league, hoping
he has rabbit ears. It comes down to how the whole incident is taken by his teammates.

I don't think its the end of the world what he did. But he was definitely wrong, and you can't behave like that. No matter what his intentions were.

You're not just embarrassing yourself, but the team as well. That's why its being perceived so badly. Although I believe Bauer. I don't think he was trying to show up anyone. I think he lost his cool over his own performance.

But at least he owned it. But he definitely owed an apology to everyone in that locker room.

After the game, which the Royals won 9-6, Bauer apologized for his behavior and said his actions weren't directed at his teammates.
"I want to be clear that my frustrations were with myself and my inability to stop the situation and keep my team in the game," Bauer said. "I'm an intense competitor. That fire is what drives me. Today, it completely consumed me and took over."
He added about his heave: "It was unbecoming. It was childish. Unprofessional. There's no place for it in the game."

Good.

He needs to learn to control that stuff. I've noticed he's getting flared up a lot easier this season than he did last year, and lo and behold, he's not pitching nearly as well.

When that dude has his head straight, he's easily a top-10 talent in baseball.

I’m guessing the trade rumors are a little stress inducing. Think we’ll see a different guy after Wednesday.

Yeah, that looked like a legitimately genuine apology to me. And I do think he wants to stay with the team.

Thank God we have an off day tomorrow.

If I'm the Tribe, I'm fining him, but not suspending him. And not trading him, either.

I think if Bauer can make it clear to his teammates & the organization over the next 24 hours that he's going to grow from this and be all in on helping the team win, this could actually become a good thing moving forward for the team. But it's going to need buy in from everybody, most importantly Bauer himself.
