2019 MLB Trade Deadline

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Would rather save any money that Puig would cost us in order to offer Lindor as much money as feasibly possible.

Mercado looks like a future all-star - CF is set.
Reyes looks like a guy that could hit 40-45 bombs a year for a long time - that's a corner OF slot if we decide to integrate him into LF.

Guys like Naquin, Luplow, Johnson, Bauers, Allen, and Zimmer should be able to adequately fill out that last spot.

I get this and all, but what if he is the perfect fit here and he dominates in this lineup? I've always liked the fit, and while Puig isn't Mike Trout, I believe he will spark this offense where ever Tito decides to put him(3rd-4th-5th I assume).

I know it's like 2% chance they'd re-sign him, but it would be great if his market wasn't that good and he'd sign here for 1 or 2 years for decent cash. Obviously the Indians can't get too crazy, but at the same time I feel it would be a great fit for both sides.

Maybe it is a pipedream, though. I guess we can revisit this later on when it matters.
I don't understand what you're saying.

Are you expecting Puig to be a far better player than he's been the past 5 years? Do you think the spot he hits in the lineup will matter?

Do you think him "dominating" will cause the market for him to dry up?

Even if he fits into our clubhouse with no attitude issues (that's a big if) AND he is consistently a good player, not the streaky or downright bad player he was earlier this year... so if EVERYTHING goes his way, I don't think the upgrade from Bauers/Allen/Johnson/Whoever to Puig is worth even 10 million a year... and he'll get more than that.

I agree with not bringing Puig back, but I can already hear the Dolans are cheap takes about it now.

I actually think Puig is going to be in for a rude awakening when he hits free agency and the large majority of teams want nothing to do with him.

Regardless, I do not expect the Indians to be in for the hunt for him beyond this year. Bringing him back to Cincy would make sense since they're all in on 2020 and apparently things went well there. Who knows if he see his future in Cincinnati, Ohio though.

Edit- I will say though, his name gets fan bases excited and that does count for something. Reds fans loved the guy and the casual Indian fan likely doesn’t know we got 4 other players in the trade

I think it matters for some guys where they hit in the lineup, sure. I'm not saying it will for him, but I wouldn't rule it out.

I'm just saying if the fit is like a glove, and he doesn't get the big time offers this winter for whatever reason - I'd hope they could attempt to work something out to potentially bring him back for another season at least. It could be beneficial for both sides if Puig doesn't command the amount of money he is looking for this offseason, and he wants to take a deal on a contender to prove his worth for a full year before hitting free agency again.

It's a clear pipedream, obviously. But if he works out here, I'd hope the percentage chance he re-signs here would be better than what it currently is, zero.

I'll be the first one to rip this ownership, but I'll also be the first to eat crow when they prove me wrong.

They proved me wrong moreso recently though. I wouldn't consider them cheap if they decided to balk at a large contract for Puig. I wouldn't want them to sign him to a long-term deal anyway. At most I'd just want him here for another year - maybe two max if we were living in a perfect world.

It won't happen, and it isn't because of the owner.

So if he’s greater than he has been, but not good enough to get a deal elsewhere, would the Indians extend him?

Uhhh, still probably not.

But that’s quite a needle to thread.

I honestly can’t imagine a single scenario where Puig is back next year.

Even if he’s awesome the rest of the year, they will be better off investing in extending their own players with what remains of the budget.

It's a pipedream, as stated.

I'm just going through scenarios to see which would make the most sense for him to return for at least 1 more season.

I haven't found one yet, other than a pipedream where he loves it here and fit and wants to take less for 1 full season here.

By all accounts, I do not expect him back next season, though.

I think he'll be back next season.

As long as he doesn't go to a NL team that we don't play at home during interleague play... or he's suspended while we play against his new team.

Well, he has to comeback to collect his World Series ring.

Unless they just mail it to him.

About Puig: Did he have the quality of a Lindor, Mercado, Santana, Ramirez, Reyes hitting in the same lineup as he was? Obviously not...….. If anything Puig should see much better pitches and hit for better average with the Tribe, to go along with his power. If it lives up to its potential or even 80%, this line-up is stacked.

I mean, yeah.

Protection hasn’t been his issue.

Sliders away has.

22 Home runs...…….60+ RBI in Cinci………...come on man.
I’m not sure what point you’re trying to make. Nobody has said Puig isn’t a solid hitter (although I wouldn’t use HR and RBI to make the argument).

He’ll probably be solid for us, and then we’ll let him walk in the off-season because it doesn’t make any sense to bring him back.
