Guy is strictly a defender. Absolutely atrocious on offense.
Huh? This is a bad take. He’s a guy who averaged double digit points offensively all 4 years of college. His senior year he averaged 21.4 PPG, 39.2% from 3PT, and 83% from the free throw line. All in the SEC. None of those stats scream “absolutely atrocious on offense.”
With that said, no, I don’t ever see him being a big contributor for us. But he does guard well and isn’t anywhere near as bad offensively as you’re making him out to be.
He’s only been in the league 2 years and it’s not like he was on a roster for a young developing wing to be showcased. The next to last game of his rookie season he played 32 minutes, scored 20 points, had 7 assists and went 9/14 from the field. If all he can do is defend, not sure how he mustered up those other points if he only had 2 steals.

He only shot above 40% his senior year in college and just above 40% his rookie year. Last year in even fewer minutes, he managed to shoot a whopping 34%. I'd argue his scoring in college came from him playing 30+ mpgs and just jacking up shot after shot.
I'd argue that for a player like him, his all-around scoring game barely matters. He's going to be the 4th or 5th option offensively every minute he's on the court. That means his role will mostly consist of moving around the perimeter spacing the floor. The question, then, is whether he's a good enough shooter that defenders will bother to guard him out there. I tend to think so, but his shooting ability is clearly borderline. That's why he's playing in Cleveland on a minimum contract, not earning a bigger deal as a 3&D specialist.
