Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He is playing better, but not up to the quality of the #1 overall. Lamar still looks like the better QB today.

I'd argue Lamar's the beneficiary of excellent coaching. Roman really outdid himself with their offense which does a great job at masking Lamar's deficiencies by using the running backs in wheel routes and attacking the middle of the field with their tight ends. Even so, Lamar's last 5 games have been meh. People still seem to be caught up in his week 1 performance against the Dolphins because outside of that, he doesn't look at great to me.

Neither does Baker, but I think Bakes is trending in the right direction and will improve his game the final 9 games.

One has had to go through a baptism by fire with a franchise that has struggled for the past 20 or so years. Before he was drafted? The franchise was 1-31. He's had to endure 3 different head coaches during this time.

The other enters into a lobby in Owings Mills, MD with two lombardi's greeting him, a Super Bowl winning HC to look over the playbook with and a team that has had a consistent front office since 1996 or so.

Yes. This matters.

Going "BAKER IS THE PROBLEM" is just so stupid and simplified at this point.

Lamar is solid and consistent. He plays within his talent level and you absolute must account for him as a runner. Baker can be confused by coverages and hasn’t been very accurate. On top of that he has this bravado which he doesn’t back up. At least Lamar is respectful to the game.

In fact, due largely to very heavy opponent adjustments, Baker was the #13 QB this week by Footbaloutsiders Quick Reads/DYAR...

He, in fact, outplayed Wilson, Rivers, Winston, and "even" Brady this past week, albeit a 42-year-old Brady who actually has been pretty average and carried by his defense this season, by that metric...

Lamar has so little "bravado" that he does selfie videos while driving 105 mph without a seatbelt.

That is serious risky stuff.

Certainly not the smartest move. But I am talking more about being a loudmouth and not backing it up like Baker.

Maybe if we can get the fuck away from the short passing RPO shit, and run more 12 personnel play action and get the plays in faster than they have.

Right now there is no time to read the defense pre snap.

One thing i noticed Sunday watching the game might come as a surprise to most.. but Young Baker is no Brady.. Baker plays checkers out there while Brady plays chess. Different mindset. Baker has the physical tools Brady has, minus the height, and i would probably say Baker has better tools.. its just Brady has the mind that Baker probably could never have.

Bakers completion / attemps is skewed because he had many short passes, 1-2 yard passes to pad his stats. Brady is actually QB'ing out there lol. I was a huge Baker fan last year.. but this year, hes not the same man.

Bold and courageous take here, glad someone said that Baker isn't quite up to par with Tom Brady. We were all thinking it

Wow Baker in his second year isn’t the greatest QB of all time??? Whoda thought that one.

Are we really making this statement right now? Brady has nearly 20 years on Baker and has spent his entire career with the best coach in the history of the NFL. Oh yeah, he has 6 Super Bowls and some MVPs, too. They shouldn't be equivalent at this point.

Not saying Baker will ever even win one Super Bowl or MVP, but if you can get him in the right system with the right coach, he has the skills.

Baker also faced what is statistically the greatest defense of all time on Sunday, so there's that too.

I'll be okay with Baker becoming 90% Brady. Totally reasonable, I think.
