Six assists. SIX ASSISTS!!! I'm sitting here at my PC going nerdballs over six lousy assists.

And poor Collin Sexton. It took him 26 games to accomplish the same feat last season.
probably going to take him longer this season

I like the 3 he took outside because he shot it with confidence and nailed it. With more confidence he will start shooting the trey more and connecting them instead of hesitating. Love his dribbling and PnR. Today was a good step for Garland.

the point you're missing is Garland has been a huge disapointment for 5th overall but the apologists can keep using every excuse in the book hoping he turns it around.
he is starting to prove some things to me especially tonight but nothing indicating a elite player.
that can change , but proof is required.
stop pretending you are happy with what he has done so far or thst im not justified in my concerns

So Darius goes out and has the best game of his young career. 15 points on 6/11 shooting, six assists (and by my count, he should have had at least 4 or 5 more, had his teammates knocked down wide-open jumpers), couple of steals, active on defense, and more confidence than we've seen from him in any previous game.

I'm guessing that if this were Twitter, a lot of your future replies on this topic would include @OldTakesExposed.

Good point, and it's interesting. Sometimes the lesser draft position can make your GM look brilliant but I doubt POR and GS even at #6 or #7 would be silly enough to take a player that couldn't start in college.

Unfortunately Cavs passed on Lillard and Barnes at #4 so no reason to think Cavs don't draft Dion at #5 #6 or #7

To your point though. If Cavs drafted Thomas Robinson at #4 maybe Kings draft Lillard or Barnes at #5 and look brilliant.

Also remember that Dion also selectively worked out for teams and he said he never even talk to the Cavs before they drafted him. I actually think that alone changed how the Cavs front office approached the draft. They were impressed by TT's defense the year before on Derrick Williams Ina workout, which is why they picked TT and might have solidified Kyrie over Derrick Williams at #1.

For those saying we should have taken SGA over Sexton. Dion's situation was very similar to SGA even though Dion never put out he didn't want to play for the Cavs. They tried that approach before and got burned.

There are alot of instance where teams look brilliant because they fell into a player from not having any better options. The Bucks have admitted they took Giannis because everyone else they liked were off the board.

I can't wait for dude to get in game shape. He looked a lot better this game and more assertive. Easily got to the lane. I really hope JB incorporate more offensive sets for Garland.

Wrong on Dion. He didn't work out for anyone. Got a promise at combine then shut it down and waited for drafted night.

overreact to 1 good game much? lol there was and still remains legitimate concerns about his impact in the NBA being worthy of such a high pick. ! good game does not cover for his poor start. Tonight was a great reboot for him to turn the corner, but lets not get carried away . Truth: He caught the terrible wizards defense by surprise and if he hadn't done well in that circumstance I would be calling him a complete bust already. Thankfully he is not a bust, answered the call against a bad defensive team ( on par with college level defenses he faced in Winthrop,Liberty, Alcorn st. and Kent St. ,and lets not forget an actual team he faced in USC where he managed 1 dime and 6 turnovers)so in this 1 game against the Wizards and Isaiah " can't defend a parked car" Thomas proves he is at least the player he was in Highschool and 5 games in college again , but remains unproven against good defenders and severely overrated on these forums.

Your anti-Garland tirades are so bad they're making me start to believe in Garland.

Once he gets confidence and comfortable, all those instances where defenders are sagging off him at the 3pt line are, well, easy 3pt'ers for him.

He's clearly playing reserved without that gunslinger mentality because he is a rookie.

They're so bad, they're funny. It's like watching "Manos: Hands of Fate" or "Birdemic."

Of course, in a year or two, it'll be "I was behind the Garland pick all the way, even though most weren't."

Wrong on Dion. He didn't work out for anyone. Got a promise at combine then shut it down and waited for drafted night.

You're right, I thought Dion shut it down after a couple works outs but I looked it up and it seem like it was after the combine.

I do think Dion and Anthony Bennett changed the process for the organization for who they draft. I don't think they got to know either of them very well. It seems like Koby highly values working out guys and trying to get to know them before drafting them. It even seems like they try to get to know the people around the players too.

are they though or are you just being an irrational optimist based on the little information you have on Garland and trusting this front office too much?
I do not see a future all star caliber player here. I get the excitement people had on here because of the type of people who are on here for the most part with a few exceptions. But now I attribute it too their and your lack of acknowledgement or admission to the poor level of attention you give to players in each draft and because they and you clearly don't care enough about the recruiting process to even realize how big of a gamble this pick was and how far away from being relevant Garland is. He might be a poor mans Trae Young by seasons end, but that still aint good enough to be a first option on a contender.
The only way I eat Crow is if he starts taking and making 5-7 threes a game and averaging 5-8 dimes while also playing hard on the defensive side and not taking off plays

High expectations you got there buddy.

Jokes aside, I'm very much in the realist camp. I had Garland in the late teens on my big board, and what I've seen from him since then hasn't really swayed my opinion either way. I'd give him a 10% chance of being a star, 60% chance of being at least a rotation player. Feeling slightly more optimistic than i was 24 hours ago, but Garland's still got a lot to prove obviously.
