Low walk rate with an ever-increasing strikeout rate and a poor defender who will turn 33 prior to the start of next season.3 yr $50m extension for Jose Abreu. Don't love that deal for the White Sox

Still, it's the same amount of years and less money than we gave to Edwin in '17 when he was 34. So, ultimately, it's not an awful deal given our current knowledge-base, but they'll probably look to deal him prior to the final year of the deal.
Edwin was worth an extra win and rightfully got more money.True, but Edwin even in his final year with Toronto was worth twice as much WAR. I suppose the "warning signs" were there with his K rate going up quite a bit in 2016.
My biggest issue with this extension is that the White Sox didn't "have" to do this; it wasn't extension or lose Abreu, they could've let him play out 2020 on the QO and then revisit in the offseason. But I'm sure rewarding Abreu for being an organizational pillar and his veteran status was factored into this decision.
Guess Flaherty has retired from playing.
The Padres have hired Ryan Flaherty to oversee quality control.

Nobody deserved it. Lindor could've made a case if he played all season, but for as good as Bieber/Santana were, they just weren't the best at their position.
I still think Perez should get some votes since no one was a better catcher than him behind the plate
My sources texted me today amazed by Mellinger’s tweets and were not in the loop.
Not uncommon for discussions at that level, because that’s well above their pay grade.
Very very interested to see the legs for this.
Strap in.
