2020 Off-Season Rumors/News

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I like where you are going with this but I have to ask: why are the Pirates making this deal??

Marte & Kela are 2 of their better assets and most likely main items to move to effect a rebuild. To say both of them net only Naylor/ Chang/ Morgan seems very light. I'd expect the Pirates to be seeking Nolan Jones, Ethan Hankins, Naylor & Daniel Johnson..

Pirates also have a new person in town so I am not sure how they will make moves going forward either as well. Personally I don't see the Indians making that type of deal at the end of the day to begin with let alone match what you think the Pirates would want for them. In no way would we ever give up that much for pieces that don't have long term control.

Interesting....
Thought Mathias was a dark horse in the Utility INF race... Tito seemed to be a fan of his.

Andres Melendez is a 18 yr old C/ lottery ticket. Maybe something develops. Maybe not.

Makes sense with the Indians having a bit of a surplus of young, AAA-MLB caliber 2Bs with Chang, Arroyo, Mathias, and even Velasquez

Like @MadThinker88 said above, too early to tel on Melendez

The more I'm thinking about it, the more I really hope Manfred/MLB throw the absolute house at the Astros. I'm talking:

- Vacate wins from 2017-2019 (I believe this was their window of cheating), including their 2017 World Series Championship and 2019 Pennant
- Largest fine for an organization/owner in MLB history
- Loss of 1st and 2nd round picks from 2020-2025
- Significant international money reduction for the next five seasons
- Lifetime ban for the major players involved (I honestly don't know how far down the line this would apply: executives, scouts, coaches, managers, etc.) from Major League Baseball

Fuck those cheaters. Throw the book at them this severely and set a precedent that the MLB won't tolerate cheating at all.

Didn't expect Goody to be DFA'd. Had his issues at the end of the year- seems like everyone did- but he was one of the guys I felt most confident in when he was back up with the Tribe

Agree with you about Goody but Tribe might have other info (injury issue??) that suggested this was better route to go then Hoyt/ Maton/ Wood/ others..

Also surprised by the Goody DFA.

FIP was kind of high last season (4.72), but he struck guys out at a good rate (11.2 K/9), and really never seemed to kill us.

Team optimistic that they'll resign Clippard?

Goody was simply atrocious down the stretch. For September, his ERA was over 11, a WHIP of over 2 and opponents OPS was 1.117 in nine appearances. Outside of an incredible July when he posted a WHIP of .5, his WHIP never dipped below 1.3 in any other month. With him being out of options I can see why they moved on from him. Let’s hope Cam Hill doesn’t get taken in Rule 5.

Much of those numbers were weighed down by a particularly ugly last appearance of the season. It all counts the same, but nonetheless.

More than anything, he became homer prone towards the end of the season and gave up some really costly homers

8/14 vs the Red Sox- gave up a 3 run homer when the Indians were trailing by 1 in the 7th
8/25 vs the Royals- solo shot in the 10th after the Indians scored 4 runs to tie the game in the bottom of the 9th
9/7 @ Twins- 3 run shot in a 2-2 game in the 7th. Inherited 2 of those runners
9/14 vs the twins- grand slam to Sano in bottom of the 8th in a 4-4 game. Inherited 3 of those runners

Ka'ai Tom is really the only one of the unprotected players that I think may be claimed. Ultimately, I don't think any of them get claimed though.

Is there any guy out there that got cut that we should look at?

Duffy could be an interesting get to play third. Usually a good defender although he took a nosedive for some reason this past season. Not really much of a power guy, but he gets on base at a decent clip.

Could move Jose to second and have Duffy be a solid 7 or 8 hitter.

2018 was his only good season. I'm fine with a minor league deal, but if Matt Duffy is our starting 3B that'll be a pretty disappointing winter.
