So Long Jordan Clarkson ( aka Chucky McJumperson)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Expiring contract who I dont see as a Cav long term. Gotta deal him to a contender and gain an asset.
What asset will we get for him that will be more productive. ? I am low leaning on signing him to a fair deal if possible. He can score. He puts effort on defense. Not a lockerroom issue apparently. What is a low first round draft pick garner us ?

People love to crap all over this guy but he has clear cut value, especially for a team which can at times struggle to put the ball into the hoop. He also WANTS to be here, so if you can figure out fair value, you resign the guy.

What's a late first round pick? We got lucky with KPJ but they often times are most like Tyus Jones.

I think Clarkson has improved this season but for long term development I think he has to go. It's not the value we get back from him but the extra playing time and touches that can be distributed to KPJ, Windler, and whoever we draft at the end of the season. It will be alot easier to develop guys off the bench without Clarkson.

It also frees up Beilein to stop playing Delly and allow Koby to move him as an expiring. This then allows Beilein to truly find the best lineups and properly develop Sexton and Garland to maximize their potential.

For a rebuilding team, Clarkson has no value. I really like him as a player and him being a part-filipino there's an affinity. But the cavs are early in the rebuilding process and they need the minutes to develop young talent, not proven veterans. His value as an off the bench scorer are for teams vying for the playoffs, teams like sixers, lakers, blazers that need that depth in the bench.

A late first would be another trade asset at worst.

Maybe we can bundle it together with our lottery pick and move up a slot or two. Or maybe we could trade it for a bunch of seconds if our guy doesn't slip that far. Look how many seconds we gave up to get KPJ this year. I know, I know...they were mostly garbage 2nds, but still, we can't make the deal if we don't have the assets in the first place.

Clarkson is wildly inconsistent. He'll have games where he is fantastic, and the shots are falling. Then he has games when the shots still aren't falling but he's chucking. As you say, he's a good fit as a bench player for a playoff team, because he's the kind of guy you can insert in a game in which you are struggling, and he just might win it for you. For a contending team where every win may matter, that has value. But for a young team where consistency is so important, and you're trying to promote ball movement, it's much less valuable.

We take on another year of salary, for a worse player, and two 2nd round picks.

Unless we believe Exum’s contract will have value as an expiring next year I can’t really say I understand it.

I’m always a Cavs homer during trades but just curious... why do you consider this an impressive haul?
The Cavs were able to move back into the 1st round to draft Kevin Porter JR with 4 second round picks.

Really? I thought it was horrible. Dante Exum is trash with the longer contract. All the Cavs could get is two seconds starting in 2022? Eh.

Cavs are rebuilding, taking on Exum's contract is irrelevant. This is an era where the value of a 2nd round pick is at an all-time high. It's amazing Clarkson netted 2 of them. Also, getting rid of a jaded veteran who's ruining what Beilein is trying to build is always a win.

Does Altman have Jazz on speed dial. 3 years as GM 3 trades with Jazz. Hood. Korver. Now Clarkson. I don't mind Exum he has flashed and is a willing passer but is made of glass. I wish Koby would call a team outside of Utah though. Another team might have given a First+ Meh tract for Clarkson. Instead we got a meh contract and 2 2nds.
