2020 Off-Season Rumors/News

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Anyone know a good site to track the remaining bonus pool money? Only thing I found was Sporttrac which shows the Indians have used $2.0M out of their $6.48M original amount, but I believe that some of the bonus pool also went to Tampa in the Arroyo/Wood trade. Seems like if the Indians are interested then they have a lot of pool money left to spend (but I don’t know if it typical to also use some of that money later this year).

Edit: after reading more, I’m assuming Sporttrac is not accurate for the signings. Most writers in the Colas articles say that almost all clubs have spent their pool money already. Also, he still needs to establish residency in another country and get cleared to sign by the MLB so it’s looking like he’ll be a part of the 20-21 pool.

At this point, I’m not aware of any teams actively pursuing him after the White Sox and Marlins both went elsewhere for their outfield needs. If the Indians aren’t interested in bringing Puig back, then one option they should be considering would be Eric Thames.

The Indians seem to be slow-playing this, as they tend to do, to see if they can get an impact guy at a rate they are comfortable with. Ozuna, Castellanos, Puig, Thames, Zobrist, D. Santana, Pillar, Pence are just a few names still out there.

Unless he really drops to the $6M range, I don’t really see Puig coming back. I think the Indians would much rather put DeShields/Allen (or Johnson) platoon out there than pay Puig $8M for a similar projected WAR.

I’d love Thames’ bat in the lineup, but I don’t think he can actually play in the OF, so I’m not sure if he could coexist with Reyes.

I would rather watch my parents have sex than a DeShields/Allen platoon.

I think I would rather watch you have sex with my parents than that platoon.

On a different note, why are Cuban players always "defecting"? Seems like an intense term being used for baseball.

Because to play here, they have to 'defect' from Cuba- leave everything behind, usually applying for asylum in South and central America because if they apply for asylum in the US, they end up subject to the baseball draft and asylum here takes longer.
