R.I.P Kobe Bryant

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Man, this is so sad. Was definitely in a bit of shock yesterday, but when I opened up my closet and saw the pair of Kobe's, it all kind of hit me.

It's heartbreaking that his three girls and his wife aren't going to have their father and sister / daughter around. He has a 7 month old baby girl that will never know her father beyond video clips and photos.

I admired the way he really shifted his mindset once his career was over. I can't think of another player of his stature that took so much responsibility on himself to help shape the future of the game.

What he was doing was stretching far beyond basketball, and it's unfortunate we don't get to see what that would become. I'm sure his family and fellow players will do whatever they can to keep pushing that mission forward, but it's just not going to be the same.

My experience in a chopper that is going down gave me enough time to be scared shitless. Your's obviously was different.

Ok, well I guess you win this one. But locking eyes with Gigi seems a bit unrealistic. I'm sure they were all shitting themselves. It's not like it really matters anyways.

Might be the most tragic celebrity death I can remember. It was going to be a legendary second act post basketball career that was already off to a great start. The daughter and the other young child hit even harder.

Why anybody would fly a helicopter in a heavy fog is beyond me.

Really glad this immediately turned into a thread of sarcasm wherein words are

I don’t know about that. Can you further elaborate on its characteristic(s) from an aroma standpoint?

Thanks in advance.

sure. Mine kinda smells like anything from bleach to shiitake mushrooms depending on the day.

The callery pear tree is known to smell like jizz when it’s flowering. The previous owners of our house planted a few lining one side of our property. Smells awful every spring.

This Kobe stuff has me messed up this morning - hitting harder than I anticipated to be honest.

The NBA is a different breed - we really get to see these guy's personalities on another level and Kobe's approach to the game mentally was untouchable sans MJ. I always wanted to see that killer instinct from LBJ - Bryant was the exact opposite of Lebron in that regard...no passive aggressive team manipulating, no smiles with friends on other teams before games - he wanted to demoralize his opponents in the worst way.

I still am so bitter about the fucking 09 Orlando series - us fans deserved to see an LBJ Kobe finals at some point in their respective careers.

RIP to one of the greats that embodied that old-school, take no prisoners NBA approach that is lost in today's game. I know I miss it and I will surely miss him.

I rent my house out to @bushwick_bill every spring and I let him do whatever he wants with it.

Every time I come back there’s new carpet on the ground, fresh coat of paint on the walls and he usually remembers to remove all of the hooks from the ceiling. But I’ll be damned if the branches aren’t all missing from that tree and a bunch of ash left in the fireplace.

@Deezus

Since the assault thing is being brought up...

There’s a pretty good case that she wasn’t assaulted.

Whatever we want to say about this not being the time or place, how he had changed for the better afterwards, etc...and for the record I agree with you...

Things would've been a LOT different if everything had happened in the current metoo era, as in "Kobe being suspended for a season" type different.

I'm the designated ceiling hook remover these days. You're welcome! Our suspension shows usually produce enough ejaculate to make those carpets solid, btw!

Day 2 of this story has been...interesting. I've read a ton of people talking about how good of a husband, father, and role model he was. People wanting #8 and #24 retired everywhere. People wanting him to be the new NBA logo.

Personally, I've never been able to separate Kobe from his 2003 incident. I've read up on the case in the past, and I find it to be credible. I also remember Kobe's legal team leaking the girl's name, knowing it would ruin her and cause her not to testify.

I was talking to a friend today and he brought up a good point. Trae Young was 5 when that all happened. Even Kyrie was only 11. And it happened when a lot of his fans were in diapers. Maybe they don't find the girl credible, or maybe it's different because, by the time they were adults, it was a long time ago and had been washed away by Kobe, his team, and the NBA. They've probably never even seen/heard the apology. It's a fascinating dynamic.

But for me, it matters a lot. I hope he truly did become a better man after it happened. But I also just can't pretend it didn't happen. I guess we all have to judge on our own how we want to view him in the end.

I don't think it's that simple.

I think it's absolutely possible that she was not consenting but he thought she was. I think a very high percentage of rape victims orgasm. So even if they're saying no, it looks like it's a no no no, do it kind of thing.
