BROWNS OFF-SEASON 2020

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Anyone else getting scarred all these Covid cases are going to lead to no football in 2019?
Absolutely. I haven't been expecting there's going to be a season. They need to figure out contact tracing for players/staff when people inevitably start testing positive. Until they do that i'm not sure what you do . . .

Yes, and I still think it’s way overboard. I’m not trying to make it political, but people are testing positive and not showing any real signs of major harm. Add in professional athletes in tip top, amazing shape and it doesn’t make much sense to even think about canceling the season. But yes, I can see certain states locking down again.

We already had played 16 games that year...;)

Seriously, I think this season will happen come hell or high water, just with leg/hand injuries "taking longer to recover from," and more players missing time with "flu-like symptoms," and maybe with high-risk coaches like Walrus/Belichick/Romeo working from home a lot more, and calling plays from in the booths instead of the sidelines a lot more on game day. College is a different story because of the greater interaction with outsiders.

A lot of street free agents will have to be ready in case of a teamwide mass outbreak...

So there is no way in hell they can isolate every coach/assistant/player of every team. So i have no idea how they plan to go through with things. Daily tests?

The problem is that they can spread it to other people who aren't world class athletes who might die.

Not to mention that there are still a lot of unknowns with regard to down-the-line health impacts this virus could have on carriers who were asymptomatic or experienced minimal symptoms.

Yes, I can see that happening, especially with college football. The Clemson and LSU outbreaks may be the tip of the spear for many teams in many different sports that are starting to regather.

But, there are still plenty of people in this forum, particularily the basketball threads, who just want things back to normal. Sure, we ALL want things back to normal, but that is just not going to happen.

Says a lot about how much we've suffered as fans that one of the only guys we've been able to get excited about the past twenty years was a special teams player.

Now now, we've had other players to get excited about. Other top fan favorites from this era include an offensive tackle, a kicker, and a defensive back who signed with the Steelers seemingly minutes after being released by the Browns.

I don’t know how you can have college sports this year. Unless all the athletes have classes remotely. I do believe the NFL will figure it out, the players need their checks. I would anticipate no fans in stadiums.

Don't forget how our punter was arguably our best player last year.

On one hand I am not sure how you can cancel the season. The only logic behind it would be that there is expected to be a vaccine in the next 6-12 months, and things will go back to normal in a year. Outside of a vaccine you never will be able to to stop COVID until you reach herd immunity. How long can you put off normal life for something that may have to run it’s course through all of the population before it stops.
