2020 College Football Season/Playoff Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think by delaying the season, players and the football staff basically have to show they can maintain their bubble with the regular students returning to campus. It makes it a much easier decision to say football can go on or not if they can or can't maintain keeping the virus away from the team.

I just don't see that as possible. Players have to go to classes -- or at least they will/should at some schools. And some players will want to go. Not the guys who are just waiting for the draft, but the guys who actually want to learn something and get a degree.

Centralize their dorm and dining away from the rest of the students. Getting everyone on an online or independent study class schedule.

That only works for those schools willing to lower those standards just for athletes (tough argument at schools that value academics), and for those players who really don't care about their educations. And I think it's much more likely to happen at the very limited number of schools in contention for a conference or national championship than at other school.

Something I thought about recently as well. Could we have an XFL bubble of draft eligible CFB players this Fall?

I'm a designer and do some work for a sports agency who represents some NFL players. We also represented a few guys that were in the XFL so our agents and marketing department are pretty familiar with what was left when the league filed for bankruptcy and how they were operating.

We've had this discussion over the past week or two and just don't see any way it could happen. I don't think people realize what it takes to run a league. The XFL completely fell apart. The ownership group purchased what was left, which I think was essentially TV agreements and intellectual property.

If I remember correctly, the XFL doesn't currently have a commissioner. They'd need team owners, a draft, coaching staffs, league staff, sponsorships, stadiums to play in, etc. It's way too much to pull off in a couple weeks, and might be too much to do in a couple months given the circumstances.

They could potentially get something together for the springtime, especially for the guys looking to enter the draft and/or current HS seniors that decided they wanted to forgo college, but IMO even that is optimistic.

With the state the league was in when it was sold, they're better off shooting for fall 2021 with the idea that they might be able to pull-out some college talent

Spring football, if it even happens, is going to be a complete disaster. Just a terrible, pointless idea.

Is there a conference transfer portal?

Would a make-shift mega conference for this fall only be legal with existing conference affiliations?

It’s over. Spring isnt happening either. Without all the conferences, whatever football gets played this fall is a farce (assuming no natty etc) and OSU and other Big Ten squads may still feel it in recruiting too. Everything sucks.

When everyone but the sec cancels, I’ll feel better

Seeing a lot of reactions on Twitter about how this could do real damage to the conference/recruiting/etc., but this assumes everything ends with the Big Ten. We are the first P5 to end the fall season, but I doubt we are the last. I'd still be surprised if anyone went forward with a season at this point.

EDIT: We are also the most likely team to join a farcical quasi-season with whatever leftover conferences were it to happen, so I'm not worried about our standing compared to the rest of the B1G.

yeah, this could all be the case. Hopefully.

Spring football aint happening though and even if it did, Fields ain't playing neither is Wade and probably others. So the reload is on, regardless. I’d take that situation over our recruiting being completely fucked though.

Oh for sure, a spring season would be an odd beast and you'd lose a lot of great talent, but maybe that creates more parity on-field? Doubt it comes through but hoping for the sake of the country that the other conferences don't just plow ahead.

Pac12 cancel as well

If everyone cancels, does B1G looo good for being first?
