The things that people are still evaluating Baker on aren't thing that just get fixed. Especially not during a season like this. I don't see how he's going to completely change his pocket presence and decision making. A lot of it is due to his physical abilities coupled with his lack of processing. Those aren't quick fixes.
His decision-making isn't the issue. That's Winston's problem.
Baker's problem is that he's being confused by defenses. He throws the ball where he doesn't expect or see a defender, and they're capitalizing on those mistakes. That can be worked on and improved. Decision-making is when you see a guy covered and try to throw them open anyway. While Baker isn't the best decision maker, he's certainly not as bad as Winston.
Did you misread that post? I listed QB's who are going to be available and that could potentially be options for us if we move on from Baker. That list is exactly what I said it is. A list of QB's who could potentially be available. I did not choose one QB specifically. I listed who will be available. What's the problem with that? How is that any different than listing potential Head Coaches if we were looking for a coach? It's just a list.
I read that post as a list of viable candidates you'd want the Browns to look at after Mayfield. Don't try to backpedal now. There's a list of QBs who would be available that didn't make your list. And I'm saying that Winston, by your comparison of stats, is a lateral transfer - so why move on from Mayfield to get someone like that?
I strongly disagree with the bolded. I do believe that OBJ and Landry have lost confidence in him. It shows in their body language every week. Look at how they react after plays. They are visibly frustrated and it's not because they are being covered. It's because Baker can't get them the ball good enough consistently.
For one, I see nothing from Landry to indicate that.
Two, OBJ is going to act childish as long as he's not having a good game. I don't have a problem with it personally, but it seems to drive fans up a wall. How was his body language following the Dallas game? Even after the Colts game he seemed perfectly happy. So acting like teammates on a 4-2 team suddenly lost confidence in Baker is ridiculous.
I also think there's a reason why Baker isn't the unquestioned leader of this team. He's said some things out of his mouth sideways about several of his teammates before like Duke Johnson and Myles Garrett. He's gotten into petty beefs with people in the media on multiple occasions. He was way out of line how he was attacking Hue Jackson regardless if what he was saying was right. he wasn't in no position to be talking that big shit like he was and a lot of people around the league soured on him after that.
Coming into last season badly out of shape and that stupid cheesecake factor shit. He's had way too many things to talk about besides good QB play.
This is just my opinion but I think Baker Mayfield not being an obvious leader of the team is a knock on his teammates confidence in him. You're the #1 overall pick and a QB of a team trying to breakthrough. You need to be the leader of the team and I believe if his teammates were that confident in him he would be leading the team but he isn't now is he?
Who is the leader of this team? Do they go as Baker goes? I'm not saying his issues off the field are bigger than the ones on the field but they definitely aren't things to be dismissing so quickly. he's got to clean that up just as much as his on field play.
Now today Alex Van Pelt said that Baker gave him the silent treatment after he was pulled Sunday. Van Pelt chalked that up to Baker having passion and fire to win but that's more bullshit. Giving the silent treatment to one of your coaches after you were pulled from a game where you were hurt and playing shitty? Baker Mayfield can't be doing that. That's yet another sign of immaturity and a clear lack of leadership from a guy that's supposed to be our Franchise QB.
You're entitled to your opinion. But Winston had a teammate calling him out and telling him to grow up. He had another teammate that intentionally omitted him from his list of leaders. His very own coach basically told him to stfu with the 'Rah Rah' stuff. That was in his 5th year.
The comparison is just silly at this point.
Edit: And to clarify... I'm perfectly fine with moving on from Baker if he plays like shit for the rest of the year and the replacement is better or has more potential. I think almost everyone is. Not sure why that's fueling your crusade to argue, but meh.
