2020 Buckeyes Football

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I dont think this is as easy as you make it sound to just isolate an entire college football team at the drop of a hat.

Some of them very well might not be able to isolate. They may have other responsibilities like taking care of kids or their parents, for instance.

I wasn't saying it was going to be easy but that's what's they need to do. They need to be able to field a team for next week that can beat michigan state.

The number of Big Ten football players who have suffered significant permanent harm/impairment from Covid is...what? Anyone know?

Feldman is saying next week looks pretty bleak for OSU-Michigan State.

I just...that Big Ten stunt of trying to use the heart condition news to scare everyone else into cancelling looks so fucking stupid atm. So stupid.

EDIT: I'm reading that they practiced and had a team dinner Thursday.

That seems like a rather poor decision.

It's even more than just that, though. It's a taxpayer funded school. So now you're talking about spending tax-payer money to quarantine a group that isn't at-risk so they can play football.

It just....eh. Not a great look.

I do think the MSU game is going to be canceled this week. You can’t expect an outbreak like this to be resolved in only one week. Right now the best OSU can hope for is to play UM and then play the game on December 19. 6-0 will be what they have to go with to present to the committee.

I'm fairly sure that whatever money they lose from not playing games is going to dwarf whatever the hotel cost is.

I think Ward is wrong.

Teams shouldnt be rewarded for not playing.

Yea Ohio State beat Indiana. But what if they were to go on and lose two of the next three? Who is to say if you dont play the games..

Which is why a minimum game requirement is necessary.

Now if Indiana were to lose again? Ok, I'll listen.

Everyone needs to root against NW now though.

Hard to see how OSU gets in if NW wins the conference undefeated.

Rece Davis just announced on College Gameday that Ohio State did NOT hit or surpass the B1G threshold to cancel the game. The cancellation was a precautionary measure to stop the spread. Makes me wonder if it was a home game and they didn’t have to travel to Illinois at the crack of dawn if this game would still be played today. Regardless, it is what it is now. Obviously a lot can change between now and next Saturday, games across the country for today are being canceled as I type this, but there’s at least a ray of hope that the Michigan State game can still happen. That’s a small victory in what’s been a very shitty 12 hours.

No, he's not wrong.

OSU would literally be better off (in the Big Ten's mind) losing a game than simply not playing the game.

No other conference has a minimum game requirement. It's wholly unnecessary and completely moronic, frankly. Right on brand for the Big 10.

Take this to the the logical extreme. Imagine OSU played just 1 game and won. It was Indiana. Indiama then plays all 8 and goes 7-1.

See the issue?

Youre suggesting we should reward OSU by NOT playing. By removing the chance of loss, they could just shut it down now and claim the division. Does that seem fair?

And it SHOULD bw better to go out and lose than to not play at all from a competitive perspective. That seems obvious to me. Not sure why Ward is struggling with it.

Playing should always be valued over not playing.

Tough break for OSU but the minimum games requirement is necessary to prevent teams from just ending the season and calling themselves champs.

Think of it like this: if you reward OSU for not playing, youre telling Indiana theyd have been better off canceling the game last week.

Do we not see the issue there? It's anti-competition.

I'm not interested in logical extremes. We are where we are right now, and OSU would have been better off playing and losing to Illinois than simply not playing. That is fucking stupid. And for the record, the CFP committee disagrees. If OSU lost a game they'd 100% be out of the playoff.

No other conference has a minimum games requirement. The CFP doesn't have a minimum game requirement. Only the laughably incompetent Big Ten.
