Meh on this. At least in what I have seen, I don't think Naylor would be a good defensive 1B for an organization that values infield defense as much as the Indians do. He's athletic and more rangy than your normal 1B, but he has no feel for picking throws and his arm gets him into trouble. Chang looks more comfortable picking throws a 1B than him and he picked up a 1B mitt for this first time this year.

I would get it if I saw someone who could play a passable 1B, but I don't think he can over the course of a full season. You can't just vouch for a guy to play there because he has played there in the past...there is a reason he was moved off of that position in the 1st place by the Padres. And the Indians moved him off 1B real quick this spring. He looked rough there.
OK. This is interesting to me. And provides support for CDAV's contention that Naylor is not a good defender at 1B and is unlikely to become one. If that is the case, yes, we continue to have a conundrum, especially if we want to play Luplow more, want to give Amed an extended time in CF, and Naylor's best position is actually LF (which will presumably be resolved in 2022, one way or another). For now, though, I guess we continue to muddle through as best as we can at 1B.

Pretty much on board with all of this..

Luplow deserves a crack at more playing time, which should come at the expense of Bauers... Which means we put Naylor at 1st...

BUT

But Lulow has played 80+games in the minors as a 3rd baseman, so couldn't Luplow also potentially play 1st??

I don't think Naylor in RF is as bad as it comes across, so leave him out there and let Luplow play 1st.. If Luplow can't hang against righties, bring up Bradley or let Chang takes some swings.

But Luplow is actually a GOOD outfielder. Why weaken ourselves at two positions? I don't see how this helps much, if at all. We need to stop moving guys around to the extent that we can, not add versatility where it's not necessarily needed. I don't think Naylor is SO bad at 1B that we have to move a plus outfielder into the infield to see if he can play there. But hey, this has been a crazy season...who knows what we might do to try and get bats in the lineup.

Yeah I see no reason to move Luplow out of the OF. He's actually a pretty damn good OFer and surprised me with his play in CF to the point where I don't think he's a burden there which gives them some flexibility. He seemed to get good reads off the bat and that's the most difficult thing for a CFer IMO.

I also agree that Naylor is not so bad at 1B that we have to move a good OFer off of his position. I'll just come out and say that Naylor is likely better at 1B then Bradley, but Naylor is a better athlete so that shouldn't surprise.

The puzzle is being put together slowly, but it will get completed eventually. Even if it isn't as hastily as some of us wish.

Just looked at the weather forecast, its supposed to snow tonight.

I am pretty much onboard with anything to be honest.

Luplow is indeed a good/decent outfielder. If we want to see him get more at bats (I do) we have to
1. Move Naylor to first and bench Bauers, opening up right field. <-- More than OK with this.
2. Put Luplow in CF more often... This creates other problems.
3. Put Luplow at 1st.. Keep throwing stuff at the wall....

I actually believe Naylor is a better outfielder than we give him credit for. He is more of a natural fit in LF in my eyes and was mildly surprised we didn't try E.Rosario in right this spring....

Eddie is not a particularly good outfielder. He's basically played LF his entire career and LF in CLE is easier to play than RF. I would have been shocked had a veteran like Eddie been asked to play RF, much less to accommodate Naylor.

I do agree that LF is likely Naylor's final destination if he hits well enough to claim the position. I do hope he proves his early season woes against LHP to be an exception to the rule, otherwise we're going to have a stable full of OF that may not be able to be full time players (Luplow, Nolan Jones, Daniel Johnson, /Amed Rosario, and maybe Naylor). I'm hoping a couple of these guys prove they can do a passable enough job--like Eddie--to allow them to be written in the batting order every day.

Giolito got bombed in the first today, and didn't record an out in the second.

Seven of the first eight batters he faced got a hit.

Two errors contributed three more runs, all unearned.

Its 10-3 Boston after six, and Chicago has already burnt two relievers.

also, on Saturday the Red Sox smacked codi heuer around - maybe it's us
