No, they are paying him to be the 6th man. The only time I see the "jumbo" package is when Sexland is in. It's also possible Mobley starts over Okoro.

If Mobley EARNS a starting spot, fine. However, the Cavaliers would be foolish to just GIVE the rookie a starting spot.

Which rookie EARNED a starting spot on the Cleveland Cavaliers?

Better question. Which rookie actually had competition? But I tend to agree with you. If we started Sexton, Garland, Okoro 3 seasons in a row. How are we going to tell the player we hope becomes our franchise centerpiece to come off the bench.

None of them, and we were a 20-win team three seasons in a row as a result. I'd like to not make it four.

Yes, that is a better question. The way you tell him is this- ‘you’ll come off the bench until you show us you’re ready to start.’ It’s really just that simple…

How, exactly, does a rookie “earn” a starting spot?
The same way you 'earn' a promotion in your job- by proving yourself worthy of taking on additional responsibilities. Promotions aren't given, they are earned. If it's the former then entitlement issues can result and that's never a good thing.

So Becky from HR should have stopped Paul Silas from starting LeBron because he was too young, inexperienced and unproven to be given a starter’s responsibilities?

We started #8 #5 and #5. "#3 whoa there, big fella. We do't want any entitlement outta YOU."

I guess Sexton didn't start, but his coach got immediately fired lol.

Cavs always play rookies big minutes. They think it helps them acclimatise to the pros. Also our vets suck balls

They seem to be right so far as well. Every one of them started slow and then came into it. If Okoro makes a big leap this year, we have even more evidence.
