2021 Season | Series #42 | Indians @ Red Sox | Sep. 3-5

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The Red Sox lead the series 4-1 but four of the five games were decided in the 8th inning or later. The one that wasn't was decided in the bottom of the 7th when the Red Sox scored five runs to break up a 3-3 tie.

IOW, this has been a close, very competitive series with every game decided late. The difference has been the bullpens. The Indians bullpen has given up 15 earned runs in 17 innings.

What was considered one of the strengths of the team in the first half has pretty much evaporated with the losses of Maton, Karinchak, and Sandlin. The bullpen's ERA in five games against the Red Sox is 7.94. With solid relief pitching the Indians could be 5-0, and that's with two games started by Morgan and one by Allen.

I find this extremely encouraging for next year assuming the front office moves aggressively to bring in a couple of good relievers in the off-season and they get Karinchak straightened out. There is no excuse after this series not to make rebuilding the bullpen the top priority for the off-season.

I feel like most of the bullpen can be strengthened internally, but getting a setup/closer from the left side with lots of experience would be a priority for me. Hence why I see Chafin as a target, we also will try to get Shaw, Andrew Miller, Parker etc back into minor league camp with us. We aren't only going to allow the young guys to pitch, but bring in some savvy veterans to compete with them..

Bring back Shaw? Really?

The pen isn't a strength right now, but it will be going into next year, barring injuries.

I think a lefty like Chafin is gonna be well out of our price range.

I don't think he will be, A's have an opt out on his contract. If they don't he's due 5.2 million. I don't think the A's will opt into that contract and likely on the market, he will be due 3-4 million area I believe. The FO has said we will spend some money and if that's his price, I don't think he will be too pricey for us...

Miller's fielding issues continue....

Miller's fielding issues continue....

I personally think that they will go away in due time... He never made this many mistakes at the plate nor in the field in the minors. I think it's a confidence/mental thing not a physical one.

I am glad to see the offense from the Tribe!!

When we are winning, no one speaks and when we are losing this place is super busy... We need to fix this issue lol
