I'm looking for a suitable hot-take on the signing of a 4-8 minute a game 3rd PG, but it appears my give-a-shitter on this one is broken.
From all reports he didn't sign a 2 way contract.
It is strange that a "young vet" first team all-Euro league guy with good shooting (39% on 5.8 attempts/game) and decent AST/TO has never gotten a chance at the NBA...on paper it sounds really good for a 3rd PG or 16th man. What am I missing?
I'm guessing defense and athleticism? Maybe it's just me but Euro guys tend to at least give a lot of effort on defense, which is really half the battle and enough to at least frustrate opposing players.
My issue is feeling like they continue to funnel end of the bench players to backup our established or developmental players. But just absolutely refusing to bring in even an end of the bench wing. It's not that I'm clamoring for a signing of Chandler Hutchinson, Svi, Stanley Johnson, or any other replacement level wing. But for fuck's sakes, you have to at least attempt to find a player. Every time LeBron leaves, we just absolutely have to leave a giant gaping hole at the SF. Between two LBJ departures, we've brought in a total of 2 SFs through free agency, and even those have been tweener SF/PFs like Earl Clark. It's just pathetic.Seem a lot of people are upset that Koby signed a 3rd PG to this 2/3.5M contract instead of the dominant two-way wing everyone wants
Fire his ass!

Reminds me back in the day when we were getting excited over Sarunas….
Sorry, just driven crazy by irrational Ben Simmons buzz. Not sure why signing Pangos would have any impact on potentially trading for Simmons. He would actually play nicely with Simmons since he was an excellent catch and shoot player in Europe. If anything it gives the team a player who fits with Simmons.
That being said I want no part of Simmons on the Cavaliers.
Pangos looks to be a guy who will get minutes only if there are injuries because both Garland and Rubio are ahead of him on the depth chart. We weren't three-deep at PG until we signed him, so it was necessary.
At SF, we already have Okoro, Windler, and Osman, which is the same 3-deep depth as we just acquired at PG. That's not even considering that Mobley likely will play at least some minutes there as well. So in terms of "end of bench" at SF, we were already there.
I'd say that it's not end of bench SF talent that we need, but rather higher-end SF talent. I really think the Cavs wanted to add the exact kind of player you're looking for in the offseason, and hoped Sexton might be enough to get them there. But then we started hearing about how the Cavs weren't getting as good offers as they hoped for Sexton, and found they just didn't have the assets to otherwise fill that slot this offseason. Or to put it differently, it's not like signing Pangos to that small contract had any real impact on the Cavs ability to sign a good two-way wing. Just completely different price points.
On the plus side, we're now set with young starters everywhere except SF (and maybe even there if Okoro progresses). So that very likely will be the priority with next year's pick.
