Not sure why signing Pangos would have any impact on potentially trading for Simmons. He would actually play nicely with Simmons since he was an excellent catch and shoot player in Europe. If anything it gives the team a player who fits with Simmons.

That being said I want no part of Simmons on the Cavaliers.

Have a feeling this is to set up a Garland + assets for Simmons trade.

I think this is a backup plan if they want to move Rubio or they just realize they won't be able to resign him beyond this year so they can get something for Rubio's contract. Hopefully he can be better than the PGs we have cycled through with 10 day contracts.

My guess is they struck out with better options and this is what they settled on.

Given the health history of Garland so far, would be good to have a 3rd facilitating PG… hope he proves to be a capable backup pg at the nba level…

All Euro League first team. That's good right?

It's worth noting they got an All Euroleague point guard in his prime, playing a bench role of need. Pangos signed a two-way contract, and usually those go to an undrafted development guy. The Charge just got a lot better.

So this deal isn't a bad one, it's just a deal for a 16th man when the Cavs could stand a move of higher impact.

From all reports he didn't sign a 2 way contract. He signed for slightly more then the minimum contract he was elgible for.

On the bright side, players of his reputation usually end up signing bigger deals with better teams when they come to the NBA (e.g. Campazzo signing with the Nuggets for 2 years, 7.4M). Pangos was the fantastically-efficient leading scorer and leading passer for the #4-ranked offense in Euroleague, so it's not hard to see why he was picked for All-Euroleague, and it's a pleasant surprise that we got Pangos for close to the minimum.

On the down side, I don't think he's actually at the level of your typical All-Euroleague player because he's an awful defender. A Pangos/Sexton or Pangos/Garland backcourt would certainly be a disaster for that reason, which makes it hard to see how he fits in the rotation here.

One of the reasons Simmons wants to come here is because he's boys with Garland
I'm not in favor of Simmons to Clev, unless it is a salary dump with no real assets included, but are these two points true?

Has he said/indicated he wants to go to Clev?
And is he pals with Darius?

Did not know/hear that.

He said he would be willing to go to Cleveland. Shortly after the report saying he would be willing to go to Cleveland it was reported it was because he's good friends with Garland. They met through Klutch Sports Agency since both are repped by Klutch and became good friends apparently.
