Week #2 - Texans - The Return of Tyrod

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Defense could be tough to watch for another 5-6 games, but I agree that passing judgment before then is just premature. Lots of youth, lots of setbacks/injuries. Newsome will be up and down. JOK's learning curve. Secondary is most definitely a work in progress.

The one thing I'll aim at Woods is not taking advantage of Myles being double-teamed all the time. Can't let teams get away with that.
I can say I'm a victim of that. I hold Woods to a very high standard given the "on paper talent" but we need to be better.

Maybe we just need time to gel, but this is ugly to watch. We need to get it together.

Honestly Delpit played a great game, he was the best player on defense and JOK had a decent game too.

We all want to fast forward to when JOK knows his position and middle linebacker, but until then we get Malcolm Smith as signal caller wearing Geritol.

Gonna get called a Woods apologist but given the turnover in personnel and the decision to barely play starters in preseason, I think maybe 4-5 games is the appropriate sample size before passing judgement.

Honestly the fact we blitzed twice the whole game and both times ended in a sack has nothing to with personel or lack of practice. Woods scheme might work, but you have to call the right defenses. Horrible personel decisions, why start Takitaki, Smith and Mack at LB. We have a running qb, you need speed at LB, Jok should be in there instead of Taki or move taki over to MLB.

Delpit didnt start playing allot to the 2nd half, and we saw what he did.

I get the defense needs to gel, and i am not usually hard on coaching, but bad personel and bad defensive play calling is 100% on woods.

They need to cross train more than JOK though. We have other linebackers like Takitaki that should know MLB

But fuck it, we are now officially in first place and go KC, 0-2 sounds awesome for the Ravens.

This this this. It’s one thing to be hesitant to pin the ears back and aggressively blitz with a young and overhauled defense… I can appreciate setting the team up to avoid major mistakes. What we’re watching now feels like underutilization of one of the best defensive players in the league by at least blitzing with some consistency to either capitalize on the double team or keep them honest. I’m not looking for the ‘85 Bears… just something to build on the attention that Myles draws, and in a round about what take some pressure off the secondary.

It’s a win loss league and this week we get the must win.

The good: Most of what I saw on the offensive side was good. Even if Baker looked more game manager than $250M man. Let’s not get cute and give it to Janovich unless it’s goal line though.

The bad: Turnovers…DPJ, Schwartz, Felton…all put the ball on the ground or didn’t battle for the INT ball. Need OBJ and Landry back ASAP.

The ugly: The defense. Other posters have already said it better than I could. However I will add, if we wait 5-6 games to get it sorted, playoffs may be a tough ticket to punch. IMO we need to be 3-1 after the Vikings game.

Did anybody in the media ask the Houston coach about his shocking decision to decline the penalty and punt?

I’m still laughing about it. Either you accept the penalty and repeat 3rd down, or you decline the penalty and go for it on 4th and 1. Doing neither is the equivalent of waving the white flag.

He’s not gonna keep his job long.

66 years old and never once a head coach at any level.

Old dog isn't about to learn any new tricks.

That was a mistake for sure… it’s interesting you mention him keeping his job. I thought the Texans looked very well coached today, and by all accounts they did last week as well. Texans fans are happy with the results thru two weeks, despite that head scratcher.

He's a 66-year-old first time head coach who has also never even been a coordinator.

Literally no NFL was ever going to hire him to be a head coach or coordinator under normal circumstances.

Culley is the definition of a patsy IMO. A guy just happy to have the job while the front office strips everything personnel wise down to the studs and the losses pile up.

I get there were defensive shortcomings but only 7 second half points were allowed; the run defense allowed 82 total yards on….28 yard attempts with a long of 15 which was by the almighty Tyrod on a scramble.

Obviously it’s concerning to see Taylor go 10 of fucking 11 in the first half but this defense can actually force teams to throw; the thing that sucks is they seem to be able to do so effectively for the time being. I’ve confidence that Newsome will improve gradually (that downfield pass break up was pie) and Delpit showed way more than I expected.

I’m concerned about throwing the ball downfield in the interim with Jarvis’ status bring TBD and us being unsure of the timetable for OBJ. It’s concerning that he’s “not comfortable” but hopefully Higgins, DPJ and nutlets Schwartz can hold it down for a few weeks.
