Cleveland Browns 2021 Regular Season: RIP

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The stat I like the best is the yards per attempt. It also frustrated me when I hear people say he is a game manager QB, or only looks good because they run so much. But to get yards per attempt that high, you have to be making intermediate to deep throws. He is not a QB that is just throwing check downs and screens.

On an unrelated note, it just sucks he had that pick to end the game at KC. Imagine the narrative if he leads them to a game winning drive. Look at the press Lamar got by beating KC, yet had KC not fumbled while in FG range they win the game, and the narrative is still Lamar cant beat Mahomes.

No doubt on the med-long. That’s where great separate themselves from good QBs.

Narratives in early season don’t mean anything though. Who cares. TBH I think these guys could afford to lose the narratives. Get a little attention off of them.

I have the feeling Stef is telling them whatever they need to hear to keep them focused on the next week and that he’s in Baker’s ear about staying aggressive. That’s what matters and makes me giddy about the rest of the season.

Also worth noting that his yards per attempt cratered after he got hurt this week. If he doesn’t hurt his shoulder, that stat is probably even more impressive.

Can’t wait for his hype video.

Waiting for the Myles Garrett and Nick Chubb hype videos.

Just had an idea.

You should start a trend where your ‘everyday’ employee posts hype videos everytime they return to work.

I don't get the jokes/clowning Odell for posting hype videos. There purpose is to get people hype/excited. He's getting ready to play his first game in almost a year after coming back (faster than most) for a team with higher expectations than any team he's been on since college. He's also a very emotional (for better or worse) player. He's doing this for himself as much as anyone else. I'm excited to get him back and see what he can do. I hope he's excited. Whatever he needs to do to get the best out of himself, I fully support.

The people who go out of their way to find that shit and then repost it and complain about it likely aren't the target audience anyways.

I'm also assuming that he's not the one behind the making of these videos. He probably has a social media team that does this shit for him at the behest of sponsors to keep his name out there. We have to remember that Odell, unlike most guys on our roster or in the NFL at large, is a brand. He's one of the most recognizable athletes in football and in American sports in general. Arguably the most recognizable non-quarterback from the past decade. Baker is probably the only one even close in terms of star power.

Are there many NFL fans who wouldn't recognize Odell without a helmet on? How many NFL players can you say that about that aren't QBs with insurance ad campaigns?

I personally do not have any social media, so i only see what is posted here from Cleveland players. Because i do not have any social media, i am pretty indifferent to it. So, i am not judging it and my only expectation is to see an entertaining product on the field.

If OBJ wants to post Scarface, cheetah videos or catching one handed footballs on the shitter — so be it, as i do not really find it all that interesting.

This. Every little click makes him money. Odell has the most instagram followers of any NFL athlete by a long shot.

I’ll tell you why I’m talking about the hype videos. I don’t know who else is or isn’t. And I’m not particularly interested in that because this is my opinion, not somebody else’s lol.

Because when you post hype videos about coming back to a game you haven’t played in a year and you haven’t been as impressive as your videos would indicate, it suggests you’re “hyping” people up for your performance.

Can we all agree there?

To me, this indicates that when someone comes back to the game, it’s time to perform.

Alternatively, if one DOES NOT post a video hyping themselves and their audience up, then there’s no additional self-imposed build up and narrative to live up to.

There are players who do not post hype videos. And OBJ is surely in control of whatever narrative his hype videos and memes. push. His push a certain narrative. I think the ones he’s pushing make little sense given that he hasn’t proven anything in quite a while.

I am completely of the understanding that social media is used to draw attention to things and that is a thing people use for businesses and athletes alike. But I found the specific tone of that video to be an eye-roller for sure. And I find hype videos and social media influencing in general to be less impressive than an impressive product.

If he puts out a great product, fantastic. Let’s see that.

I gave it some additional thought:

My issue is partially with the idea that the hype video is any indication of his upcoming performance. Hype videos in general are dumb, though I understand their purpose and their money-making capabilities.

FTR I think the video was well-produced and if Odell was putting up Myles Garrett or Nick Chubb quality, healthy performances I’d be more impressed. I think LeBron did them, pretty sure Kyrie did, Curry etc. No issue there. Healthy players who have proven it consistently. Even Myles trainer was posting videos of his insane jumps. Less hype videos than documenting his athletic performance.

Perform and then give me a hype video. That’d be a nice trend for guys who haven’t been healthy and played below expectation.

@The Oi you seem to really be forcing the wedge that there must be a meaningful difference between people posting stupid shit to social media and people not posting stupid shit to social media.

I don't think it means anything. It doesn't matter. Let the guy post silly little videos to pump his ego or to get his fans hyped, or just to boost his follower numbers. In the end, it's meaningless.
