Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think it’s probably a better choice than the hail mary but definitely not as egregious as the live game video looks.
If he has a little less air on the ball for the hail mary then maybe he gives DPJ a jump ball.

Comments in various game threads on Reddit yesterday and the blurb on the browns power ranking on ESPN.com are calling out a good amount of fans trashing Baker excessively
I can definitely say it's extremely excessive.

We can all sit here and call him thin-skinned and there's some truth to that, but it's the same characteristics that drive the attitude he has. In the very least, doubt I'd ever see Chicago fans putting Aaron Rodgers in a Bears uniform or SF putting Wilson in a 49ers uniform. A lot of that crap reflects so poorly on our fanbase and you can tell we aren't used to having anything more than trash at the QB position. Honestly not sure what non-HOF QB would want to play here.

Maybe we should replace Baker with Super Bowl MVP Big Dick Nick. Dude outdueled Brady, fucking legend. Foles also doesn’t do social media. He’d be horrible for us but I suspect if he was on our bench there would be screams to have him start ahead of Baker.

The criticism of Mayfield for yesterday’s game is so over the top that I can’t take it seriously. Baker and Emily should stop responding to that because it makes him look weak and invites more shit.

Nothing to see here, IMO. Everyone that has any level of interest in the Browns was/is pissed off about losing that game. Baker is undeservingly getting some of that criticism because the last thing we saw in that game was that pathetic 2 minute offense. Ultimate recency bias. But it never should have gotten to that point anyways. Baker needs to be better, yes, but he was more than good enough yesterday and isn't in the top 5 reasons why we lost that game. Probably not even top 10.

This shouldn't be hard for anyone to understand, Baker & Emily included. Surely they are pissed off about losing that game as well, it shouldn't be difficult to understand there's going to be a few pissed off idiot fans spewing nonsense on twitter. Instead of responding to random idiots on twitter, channel that energy into beating the Cardinals' ass next week.

I wish someone could drop a nuke on all of social media. A lot (all?) of the issues in our society right now can be tied back to social media.

This sort of take just drives me insane. Now John is a nobody, just some pud on Twitter, but I absolutely despise this mentality.

"It's better than what we had" is just not an acceptable answer if something still isn't good enough. That is what losers say.

If something is not to your satisfaction, regardless of what it is, and your answer is "well, it could be worse!" instead of "well, it should be better!" then you're probably a loser.

I just don't give a shit how bad the Browns QB situation has been for the last 20 years. I also don't give a shit that Mayfield is the best guy they've had at the position in 30 years. I want to win the Super Bowl and I think Mayfield is one of the primary reasons why they won't.

Of course I'm happier when the Browns go 11-5 and win a playoff game than I am when the Browns go 1-31 in a two-year period, but expectations just matter a lot. The expectations are higher this year, so the "just happy to be good again" mentality is just out the window.

Oh, it’s the epitome of loser mentality. I know it’s an old cliche but Browns fans aren’t used to following a contender, so you’ll see that take a lot. But definitely a loser take.

Someone else on here referenced this already but I ask again: but what did LAR do the second they found out they could get a better QB than the guy who took them to the SB?

I stopped myself from getting into another pissing battle about that OBJ “read”.

If we had a time out, that’s 100% the throw. Magically, you can manipulate “reads” to really paint a narrative that just… doesn’t exist.

I hope someone All-22s the entire final drive so we can see just how many down field throws Baker missed.

OBJ was not the right call with 22 seconds left, the issue is he wasted 3 in bounds 4 yard gains early in the drive, he needed to protect the clock better in the beginning. He had a 10% chance on that drive, but he lowered it to 1% by not protecting the clock.

That said, Baker did not lose us that game, he had a great game, last drive was his only mistake, and even then Tom Brady himself would have only won it 1 out of 5 times or so.

The biggest thing was our defense and all the injuries, and i hate to blame the refs because they usually suck both was, but wow that pass interference call was all time bad.

They unloaded him with multiple fassets and still won’t win a super bowl.

once the Gurley run game went away, Goff was largely shit. Wonder kids entire scheme is predicated on being able to run the ball. When they couldn’t, he changed schemes, and the scheme change was not to Goffs benefit. When they added Stafford, though, they became marginally better at the cost of significant assets.

If the Browns did this, this entire board would lose their shit in hindsight if it didn’t result in a ring.

The Rams, truly, are the exact same team they were a year ago with a slightly worse defense.

Dumb tweet. However, after reading your reply my verdict is that John has the better case.

Tough opponent on the road, a plethora of injuries concentrated at OT and CB, adverse officiating and we lost the lead very late in the game. Very disappointing but hardly reason to tar and feather Mayfield (or Stefanski). Think it’s a bit silly to criticize Baker because he’s not as good as Brady, Mahomes, Rodgers etc. Certainly if we could sign someone better I’d support that; until then, don’t really see the point of trashing him. The man did lead the offense to 500 yards & 42 points with no turnovers, hardly a bad day at the office.

Your certainly entitled to your opinion regarding the Browns quarterback. My guess is that over 75% of Browns fans think the Browns can and will win a Super Bowl with Mayfield. If you want to bitch about Mayfield do after he has a shit game ...not after a game where he balled out big time.

He dropped a pass and also made a very difficult catch. There's no reason to only acknowledge one catch and not the other.

The reason to aknowledge the one is because you wrote:

Our receivers do not have a problem getting open or getting open deep down the field. The problem is with Baker connecting with them.

And it that case, the problem clearly was not with Baker connecting with the receiver. The problem was with the receiver.

Moreover, Mahomes was a turnover machine yesterday. Maybe Chief fans are calling for his head too. Just tired of the Mayfield bashing.
