Game Thread | 2021-22 Season | Game #8 | Cavs @ Hornets | Nov. 1, 2021

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Why not though?

There's a lot of complaining in here about him playing 40 minutes tonight, but I'm not sure why that's so egregious. He's a 20 year-old kid built like a stretched out Kenyan marathon runner. He's not averaging 40 mpg and he didn't play 48 tonight; he got 40 in a close game against a pretty good Eastern conference team who just beat us a little over a week ago.

And like you said about him impacting the game, he's... Uh... Impacting the game. We're trying to win and he's a huge part of those efforts and I just love to see it. I was bummed that 3 at the end didn't fall but boy was I thrilled to see him have the balls to take it. We're not saving him for "when it matters" at some point in the unknown future; we're letting him play and learn and be a part of actual efforts to win and I think that's gonna be a good thing for his development.

Again, I don't want to see him averaging 40 a night, but I have no problem with his minutes going up periodically for games like this. Stars play a lot of minutes. I want him treated like a star.

I am not confident he can handle it yet. He looked better with a day of rest, but looked gassed at the end. Playing exhausted leads to injury and the kid is 7 feet.

I want him around 35 at most.

I agree except LeMelo is not a superstar yet, he has the potential, but we throw around the word Superstar pretty easy.....Steph, Durant, Lebron, those are superstars.

IF he keeps shooting like he did last night, he is.

Is crazy every team we play it feel that team at has an off night, that means the defense is just that good. This team is awesome. Made me proud yesterday.

Charlotte pushes so hard off makes. They just rely that teams relax after they get a bucket

Game notes:

- Allen was truly a man possessed. His ability to just ferociously dunk the ball out of nowhere is second to none. I still think he's too limited a 5 in today's NBA to start for this team long-term, with Mobley (hopefully) being groomed into a space-eating high post offensive hub. But for now, Allen is extremely important on both sides of the ball.

- I don't think people have really noticed how fluid the positions played by Triple Towers really are. In theory Markkanen is the starting SF, but in reality, he seems to be playing an awful lot of PF these days, spotting up in the corner. Mobley switches between SF, PF and C at a moment's notice, depending on the situation and matchup. As a non-shooter, Allen stays near the basket on offense but he's super-switchable on defense, all the way to PG's.
Great post. I highlighted two of your points. I agree that Allen has limits as a 5 but as you point out we‘ve created a positionless frontcourt of big men who can all defend on the perimeter and two that can block shots inside. It’s a truly devastating defensive setup against most teams (would have trouble against teams with multiple physical bigs like the Lakers) and it means their individual limits are to some extent covered in the team defense concept.

We‘ve asked SexLand to change their games somewhat and they are learning how to play with the new frontcourt. I agree that we will likely have to trade one or both but it’s still very early in the season and we need more time to see how this team evolves.

Windler is a dude who currently has a .325 career 3pt average and hasn't made a single perimeter shot all season. And we all know he gives you little else anyway.

Probably not someone you expect to come in and save the day. I'm not opposed to giving him a few minutes here and there, but he's too slow to guard SG's and doesn't have enough strength/size to play the kind of switching D at the SF position we want right now. Cedi does.

Windler is locked in as a 10th guy on this team until further notice.
No the issue has always been never healthy not skill level when healthy. his stats are poor tools for assessing impact as a healthy player because they were from a very small sample size. I am not convinced yet there is a better shooter on this roster and that is not a joke. He is useless and won't even be the 10th man if he can never get his body right. But if he does, he is in the rotation on this team easily over Okoro and Osman with a competent coach

It would have to be something like Sexton, Markkanen, and a first round pick for Brown. That would give us:

C Allen/Mobley
PF Mobley/Love/Wade
SF Brown/Cedi/Windler
SG Okoro/Brown
PF Garland/Rubio

I would do that deal.
I wouldn't be interested in trading for a guy in Brown who is stuck with having to manage his pulse o2 levels with inhalers in game with long-hauler symptoms tbh. He seems like damaged goods long term even though he has had some nice showings this season as if the meds are working. Most of these Boston kids look slower weaker etc than seasons past and it appears as if the pandemic hit them harder than others.

Game notes:

- Fantastic win. The start we had reminded me of the Mike Tyson quote - "Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth". The Hornets spent the rest of the game recovering.

- It's funny how the Triple Towers experiment has warped my perspective on what a frontcourt is. When Wade subs in, he's somehow looking small out there. The guy is 6'9''. Some teams are playing dudes his size as small ball centers.

- The midget backcourt is taking years off my life. LaMelo was doing whatever he wanted to these guys. Just too much size. It's also hard to get into an offense when both Garland's and Sexton's defenders regularly have like 4 inches on them. They can't see over the defense, can't see where the help is gonna come from, and end up barreling into 3 guys. That needs to stop.

Windler is supposed to be a great rebounder, too. Or, at least he was in college.

until he gets some run at sg I dont think we will see the real DW he can play the 3 but he is easily the best off ball sg on this roster when healthy

IF he keeps shooting like he did last night, he is.

Sure he is a potential super star, but 20/6/6 is very good, but wouldnt say super star yet in his 3rd year. He is getting there, i really like his game though.

I think a star raises his teams floor. Ball is doing that

This is game 6 of his second year.

Like he's not a "superstar" yet in my book, but he will be very shortly.
