This is awesome news! I can't even imagine what this organization could accomplish with just a consistently average payroll. Hopefully this is the first step to making that happen.
 
This is tremendous news both near and long term.
But there will be many items to juggle once the lockout is over. We need to get our payroll to touch $70 million.
 
He is a shareholder of a whole lot of teams around the world. Like a ton of soccer teams in Europe.

I’m not sure how the MLB requirements are for approval for a primary shareholder, but I’d imagine they aren’t making him sell anything.

I was sort of shocked about already being a majority for the Devils.
 
How’d did he make his money? All I can find is his ownership in other franchises.

The addition of Blitzer would basically triple the pot, although it doesn't quite work that way.

Kinda surprised that this leaked out before anything was finalized. Very seldom does anything involving this franchise get leaked before all the ink has dried.
 
Looks like he also owns half of the Scranton Wilkes Barre AAA team which is currently affiliate of the Yankees.

Dude collects sports teams like it’s a hobby.

Also trying to be a part owner of Real Salt Lake in MLS.

I could be off here, but I believe Blackstone owns approximately 95% of the planet including every body of water.
 

Blitzer would also reportedly acquire shares from John Sherman, who purchased a controlling stake in the Kansas City Royals in 2019 and is forbidden to continue retaining shares in other MLB clubs.

Blitzer and Apollo Global Management executive Josh Harris were rumored to be considering a bid for the New York Mets before billionaire hedge fund manager Steve Cohen purchased the team last winter.
 
Seems like the owner type who wouldn’t be overly involved given the numerous other teams he’s a part of and part owner of.

Which I think is good. The Guardians have a really good organization already. They really just need a check writer.
