The number of potentially available quarterbacks that the Browns could acquire who would keep Baker from being the starter is larger than two.

Could strike out on everybody? Sure. Some guys have no-trade clauses. Some guys inevitably will be shopped, but not moved.

But the list is certainly more than just the two names you mentioned.

We've been through this. Cousins would be hard to acquire based on his salary. Carr is probably staying put now. Garroppolo isn't an upgrade.

So who is realistically available?

You can spout every stat you want about Jimmy G. And I will tell you that this fucker is a turnover machine and is incredibly inconsistent down the field. He benefits from having Deebo Samuel the YAC Machine to inflate his stats and worth, not to mention a beast like George Kittle.

Jimmy ain't shit.

Jimmy: 38 INTs and 27 fumbles in 63 career games

Baker: 56 INTs and 27 fumbles in 60 career games.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I’m not a big Baker fan obviously, but I think it’s fair to only use judge his time with Stefanski when making an evaluation on what we think we will be moving forward since anything moving forward will be under Stefanski.

I used to believe this until all of the things that happened pre Stefanski were in the spotlight again this season. Things like the turnovers, bad mechanics, and poor leadership. Those were some knocks on Baker before Stefanski and they were all on display this season with Stefanski.

I'm not defending Baker here.

Just that I don't want older, expensive Baker Mayfield.

All three of the guys you mentioned are going to be available for the right price and the case could be made that they’re all better despite your claims to the contrary.

Throw in Watson. Throw in potentially Hurts and Tua if the Eagles or Dolphins decided to make a big push for Watson or Wilson.

That’s anywhere from 6-8 guys that *could* (not necessarily will) be had for the right price via trade that could be considered upgrades.

And hell… we don’t even know how Andrew Berry feels about this this crop of rookie quarterbacks either. It’s certainly not outlandish that he has evaluated them all and has completely fallen in love with one of them too.

Jimmy G isn't anywhere near an upgrade on Baker. I will never, ever be convinced of it.

He's a backup QB with a pretty face. He's bizarro Sam Darnold.
Not just the face.

He's an adonis.

One could grate Sam Darnold's face on those abs.

Just so we are clear here, this might be my top option.

Malik Willis is, imo, the real deal. Give that kid a structured offense like ours and let him go. I think he'd be a superstar here. I'd happily trade up from the 2nd to get him.

I trust Andrew Berry and his front office's ability to evaluate college players. If they feel like there's a QB they really want, I'm on board with taking that player.

That said...

If the Browns do bite the bullet and draft a QB in the first two rounds, obviously that's it for Baker's long-term future in Cleveland.

Even if Mayfield opens the 2022 season as the starter with the rookie as the backup, the countdown would be on for him to be moved off the team because teams don't pick QBs that early to be a long-term backup.

Agreed… I’d roll the dice on Willis

This is based of a 10 game sample from 2020 when we had a soft schedule?
No, he's played well other times as well. You don't like to admit it but it's true.

Like I said I'm willing to replace him, but the cost/benefit has to be right. And I don't think it happens unless one of the future HOF'ers fall in our lap.
