Cavaliers Trade Ideas: 2022-23 regular season edition

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
@JJ_PR

I am actually not fond of Collins contract, but I think he could help us down the stretch by getting Love some time off and whatnot in that big man rotation to save him for the playoffs and maybe even be almost like his heir apparent off the bench? He's had an issue staying healthy but as the bench guy in the rotation piece. How good is his mobility?

I added Collins to match salary. He has no value whatsoever on the court. He's injury prone, & I doubt his mobility is good.

Just bc Stevens won us a few games means you aren't going to trade for say Brandon Ingram if he is available bc Stevens was good? This is a more extreme example but someone like Eric Gordon has a very clear skillset that we can easily fit into the rotation. He would instantly be our 2nd best playmaker on the perimeter. You play Okoro a bit less, drop the rando wing mins of Stevens/Windler (one of whom is probably gone in such a trade), and probably play Cedi a bit less. 100% worth it.

How long is Eric Gordon going to be able to contribute here at a level that makes a trade worthwhile? I don't want to bring in a player who essentially is a short-term rental who will impede the development of guys who are longer-term pieces.

Two years at a good to high level and by the third year, hopefully the Okoro/other new guard guy group is advanced enough to eat those mins. Im totally fine not going after EG but I think people are underestimating how long he will remain effective

Monitoring the LeVert situation, my main concern with him is his injuries history, seeing that he missed the last 2 games after having that fantastic 4th quarter against LA is concerning, so either they are trying to bubble wrap him with trades pending, or he really is made of glass……

Hard pass on LeVert. He’s Collin Sexton plus 3-4”. The Pacers want too much for him anyways and I’m certainly not giving them Sexton.

Gordon is 33 and he would be a short-term rental. I don’t think he’s the right fit for this team either. The Cavs need some valuable playoff experience, which they are about to get. We don’t need a 33 year old taking minutes away from our young guys.

Eric Gordon is exactly the kinda guy I don’t see taking valuable minutes away.

This isn’t the same mentality of the last couple
of seasons… Developing is nice and all but the real development comes in the form of getting Garland/Mobley/Allen in the playoffs…

If Eric Gordon comes in and plays 25 minutes a night and contributes getting this team to the playoffs that’s way more important for the overall growth of the team as opposed to getting Okoro/Stevens/Windler/Wade more seasoned…

Gordon would be fine with the Cavs

I personally want to win as many games in the playoffs as possible this season in a sense. That experience is something I think this team overall needs, so getting that 2 guard reinforcement is something I want to get, but at the same time, I don't like giving up the draft picks unless we get someone who would be a long term player for us.

Though personally with the way the contract negotiations seemed to go with Sexton, I think we are better off trading him. Who knows, we could always put up a strong bid for him in his RFA year and see if we can get him back if we want to lol

Unless a player makes this team a championship contender *this* year, or is a long-term piece, I don't see intelligence in trading anything of value or stunting the development of valuable players to acquire someone.

Being the Atlanta Hawks or Knicks doesn't appeal to me. I'm more interested in what Memphis seems to be doing. What the Spurs did. Growing organically. Make the playoffs this year and see where they can get. If it's a first round exit, so be it. No one on our starting 5 is old enough to rent a hotel room or car on their own. Our best player can't even legally drink. Let these kids figure it out this year.

And nobody on our current team is able to take over games when this team is struggling offensively. This team is in dire need of a shooter AND a person who can create off the dribble and finish at the rim. As much as I love Garland….he ain’t it! This team will not serious contend without that type of player.

We have a first round pick and 2 good second rounders in the coming draft.
We don't need all 3 of those, 2 will do.
If people aren't interested in Gordon or Levert I'd be fine with Cory Joseph. Less salary to carry into next year.
We need someone to take some pressure off of Garland.
Rondo may be too broken down at this point and i don't think anyone is comfortable
watching Goodwin or Pangos in the playoffs.

And why does the youngest team in the League need that right now? How do you suggest they get that? How do you know such young guys *aren't* that?

Collin Sexton. He’s also good enough to be a secondary playmaker, although nowhere near as good as Garland, Rubio or Rondo. It’s why the Cavaliers want him back for next season.

I'd prefer we either trade 2nds for a first in this draft. Or trade one of the high seconds for a future first. Does that ever happen? Do high 2nd rounders ever get traded for future 1st rounders?
