Game Thread | 2021-2022 Season | Game #67 | Cavs @ Bulls | March 12, 2022 | 8:00 p.m.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Denver clinging to a 1pt lead late in the 3rd qtr. Siakim going off. Barnes playing well too. They have no one to guard Jokix tho.

Just as I predicted the Cavs put up a good fight and kept the score respectable, but without Allen, Markkanen, and LeVert and playing the second night of a back-to-back on the road against one of the better teams in the East they had no chance.

The Cavs were obviously tired, only making 36 of 86 shots. They were 5-for-24 on 3's, probably due to tired legs. The Bulls had 12 steals and 5 blocks despite ranking 22nd and 23rd in the league in those categories. Garland looked tired, going 9-for-24. Cedi really hurt us, going 1-for-8 on 3's and Love missed a couple of uncontested 3's.

The Cavs did a nice job on DeRozan, holding him to 9-for-26, but they did foul him in the act of shooting too much. With Jarrett Allen out, Vucevic had a good game with 20 points and 14 boards. Mobley played well on both ends for the Cavs.

Once again the Cavs bench was dominated. The four guys off the Bulls' bench were between +9 and +17 in a 10-point win. Cedi was -18 and Rondo -20 in only 17 minutes. Stevens had 2 points and 4 fouls in 13 minutes. For the second game in a row the Cavs' bench got their asses handed to them.

With guys who normally are on the bench are starting (Love, Wade) it means the bench is not as deep.

Garland played 40 minutes after 37 last night. I guess the bone bruise is OK.

I would have liked to see these teams play with the Cavs having Allen, Markkanen, and LeVert and the Bulls have LaVine.

Denver pushes lead to 6 to end 3rd. With Jolie resting and Siakim not.

Hopefully Denver holds on. They’re gonna be a problem for us I can already tell by how they play offense.

have you seen our run home, its over we will be in the play in

Toronto is playing 2nd night of a back to back in high altitude. I expect Denver will pull it out.
With that said wouldn't be surprised to see both Toronto and the Nets pass Cavs in the standings over the next few weeks. Unfortunately the Cavs are just too beat up with injuries.

lol, Toronto are about to beat Denver without VanVleet. Get the fuck out.

Suprised about Toronto considering how they played against us.

Because of injuries, personnel and overall offensive design, I'm pessimistic this team avoids the play-in.

Tonight it was the same story as the Miami game, but with a worse twist: Garland starting off 1-11 from the field. A complete WTF.
He ended with a respectable box score, but some of those buckets would have made this the W it should have been.
Without both Allen and Markkanen, defense is cooked. And it hasn't been great these last 10 games to boot.
There was a valiant try to diversify the offense, but that's really not gonna happen until LeVert gets back.

And Toronto wins the bullshit games the Cavs just could not muster.
Difficult to find positives in these losses, with all the injuries. A win with a team as depleted as the Cavs are would have worked wonders.
With each loss where the Cavs get blown out from 3 and can't counter with a damn thing, I get closer and closer to wishing the Sexton detractors would be dumped somewhere off in the New Jersey barrens.

Honestly I feel depressed about these losses. They have exposed that if we dont have our starting lineup doing their averages, there is no "next man up". Cavs have alot of "intensity" guys. Guys that work really hard but dont actually produce anything if they are given extended playing time or more touches.

The Cavs bench guys and units are not significantly better or worse than some they have had success recently like the Raptors. Toronto is without OG Anunoby and Vanvleet—an all star..:and has guys like Chris Boucher going off and winning them big games against good teams.

Difference is that Nick Nurse is the best active coach in the league besides Pop.

Nick Nurse is constantly getting these role players great shots. Different shots. He’s using the entire floor. One play they’re playing screen roll with one guy, then the next play theyre using dribble handoffs off a double screen with two entirely different dudes. Then they’re doing an isolation clear out fast down the floor, but not to get a shot, they clear out, have whoever it is take his man onto either side of the paint, if there’s a bunny they take it but the point is they shift the entire defense, the defense thinks they defended well even, but the entire point of the initial penetration was for the ball to come around and get kicked to a different ball handler with the defense tilted, then the attack begins. Nick Nurse is a fucking straight up maestro. He’s literally one of the most creative offensive and defensive coaches that I’ve ever seen.

The Cavs start over 80+% of their offense with the same base. It goes into the same handoffs. The same swing screens. The same fucking shit. You just saw two elite coaches, Spo and Nurse, frustrate and bother Garland enough to ensure he wouldn’t be beating them by himself…and knowing outside of a rookie big we didn’t have the firepower to do a damned thing to either team. Cant blame JBB for losing either game given the injury woes. And of course it’s not a huge insult to say he was out coached by 2 of the best in the league…that was always gonna happen…

But I can hlame him for the milquetoast offense, the lack of counters, the lack of imagination.

Books out on Bickerstaff. The imagination in our offense came from Rubio / DG..now it’s just DG but he also has to be the go to scorer, leader, facilitator, table setter, etc etc. Hes managing amazingly for a 3rd year guard. But it’s just not enough to be a no-doubt playoff team.

Toronto’s isn’t much easierand they have to overtake us as we have the tiebreaker.

With the way we’re playing I don’t have much confidence that’s for sure. But say Garland and Mobley go on a 4 game tear and we win the next 4 and Toronto takes 2-3 losses. Like…unlikely? Very. Impossible? No. But something like that could save our guaranteed playoff spot.
