Cleveland Guardians Offseason Discussion 2021-22

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm just more afraid of TMac's arm falling off than any inconsistency. I have faith that he knows how to pitch but counting on him to give 30 starts or 150 IP does seem like a bit much. For that reason I do prefer him as a #5 however I think he could easily end up with a better ERA than those slotted in below him and honestly I like his odds vs Plesac/Civale coming off weak seasons.

I actually think we could use a piggyback with TMac as well to start the season. Essentially have Morgan/Allen always slated to coming in for TMac, to limit his innings especially to start the season. It could also be a day off for the bullpen since if TMac and Morgan/Allen are on their games, they have no reason to even use a bullpen arm...

A few thoughts after several days and 25 pages...lol.

1) In spite of any amount of relabeling, this off season has been a disaster. This problem began when not one decent upper level prospect was traded last season.

Deja vu all over again.

2) Not surprised about Arias going back down quickly. Gimenez is a better prospect/player, and always has been. Arias began the year in AAA, and in spite of a desperate need, was the prospect that wasn't given a look last year.

3) IF healthy, the rotation and pen will be better than projected. A rotation doesn't have to get better in the front to improve. There is a greater range of improvement if it comes from the back end. If our #4 and #5 are better than the other teams, it means just as much as or FORs being better than theirs.

4) Getting excited about ST production is not really intelligent. If such stats meant anything, Choo would have been an all star ever since he tore up the AFL in 2018. (.919 OPS)

5) The definition of insanity is well known. Moving Amed between SS and OF and/or platooning Gimenez would be insane.

Gimenez in my mind, is not the prospect Arias is when it comes to ceiling... Arias has a much higher ceiling...

McKenzie has had 1 problem with his arm as a pro to this point, shoulder fatigue, that barely kept him out and is coming off 140+ IP last season.

His arm is going to fall off?

When I say arm I don't necessarily specifically mean arm but he obviously has a very small frame and maybe there's magic in that body that you know about and I don't but someone listed at 6'5 165 is not what I'd count on for durability.

Eh.

Mechanics caused his back issues, those have since been cleaned up. For a young pitcher who had to deal with the Covid shortened season and no contact with coaching staffs and training staffs during it, for him to have only dealt with shoulder fatigue the last 2.5 seasons is far from a guy you should be worried about when it comes to durability.

I’m not concerned. People will see 90-93 and be concerned and I’ll have to come in and tell why I’m not concerned again though, guaranteed.
