Cleveland Guardians Offseason Discussion 2021-22

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I know, discussion from all angles makes us come back. It's a message board, therefore in the moment asinine shit can be said.

They did roll the dice on the youth and it's paying dividends. The season almost felt like we were starting with Ben Gamel and Jake Bauers again. Some thought we were wasting a year of Hosey and the elite pitching staff.

The MVP of the year though is health.

Twins are 57-53 and lost a huge chunk to the IL, Whitesox are 56-56 and are the most injury riddled team in all of baseball.

Guards are 59-52 and never really had the injury bug. (Knock on wood).

I think our best player has been hurt for a majority of the season personally. Even if no one in the organization would admit it.

Meh, I’ve been a Dolan defender. They let the right people do their jobs, but their PR game is fucking awful.

Meh.

Think everyone knew Minnesota's pitching wasn't going to be good before the season started, and them trading their best reliever right before the season started didn't help matters, and that would be their weak spot. And that has hurt them more than injuries. Their bullpen is atrocious. They have the 5th highest team ERA in baseball. They haven't really lost any pitching to the IL.

White Sox are the most injury riddled team in baseball over the last 5 years, let alone this year. Their entire team is made of glass. Eloy, Moncada, Anderson, Robert, Giolito are literally hurt every season.

And I'm not crying over injury luck after losing 3/5ths of the starting rotation last year while in the division hunt. 40-30 and in 1st place last year when Civale went down and him, Plesac, and Bieber were all on the IL.

Fan support. You use ownership as an excuse because you don't want to admit the real problem.
But yet Cleveland still averaged 25k a game, which is pretty damn good for small market baseball.

Matter fact, 2009-2022, that season you speak of is the only time they eclipsed over 2 Million fans.

Always top of the league in TV Ratings. Fan support??? Lol. Are a bunch of bots polluting the TV station? Dolans wouldn't go that far now.

I think people don't realize that a much higher spending owner who meddles in the front office would produce a way worse result than what we've been getting over the past 20 years.

That's a baseball problem as a whole, though.
I don’t think Paul Dolan needs to go on TV and say just enjoy him in regards to Lindor. He’s also some other dumb stuff. Antonetti was a big offender during the off-season as well.

I don’t disagree at all.

Have you heard what some of these other small spending owners have said over the last decade publicly?

Makes "enjoy him" look like a contract extension.

Baseball has an archaic PR system from the top down, everyone just falls in line. For better or worse, Steve Cohen is trying to change that.

I’ll admit I have not. I thought you were referring to MLB as a whole being awful at marketing their players.

And his injury shouldn't be shocking. Sure I said something about that too back in the Spring.

Recent TJ survivor kept hurting his arm and missing time all of a sudden needs TJ again. Didn't see that ticking timebomb coming.

To me, his C group on Southwest to Spring Training comment was the most egregious example.
