Game Thread | 2021-2022 Season | Game #76 | Mavericks @ Cavaliers | March 30, 2022 | 7:00 p.m.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I understand but you have to coach the game that's in front of you, as it's being played.

Kevin Love literally stood still as Caris tried to get him the ball from the ground while Mavs players just ran to it and took it. That was the effort.

And then he played like another 5 straight minutes and that was the game. At some point, you gotta go against your gut and try the guy who was, at least, minimally effective.
We agree with this one, I can’t stand Love defense, if he not hitting 3 he useless…..

I really wanted us to make the playoffs. I thought it was a sure thing back in January. Now it looks like a prayer. I never saw this coming (like the hopeful fool that I am). I know young teams struggle and front-run when things going our way but we're just not good enough to overcome these injuries. Especially now that other teams in the East are more healthy and thriving this month. Silly me.
Who can predict injuries? No one. No one expected us to lose Allen and Mobley at the same time.

I mean they aren't missing what we're missing but they certainly don't have their top 9 players. Dinwiddie has been their second best player since getting there and Hardaway is out of the season.
Talking about Toronto ……….

They are reporting Mobley is out for at least three more games and JA’s return is TBD so let’s just shut both of them down for the rest of season and get that first round pick and build for next year!

He should still be able to coach a cohesive product on the floor. Great defensive teams don’t automatically collapse into bottom feeders.
It’s not the talent that JBB lost, it’s the GIMMICK that he lost. He’s unable to coach a coherent defensive unit that isn’t tailor made to have something no other team has at their disposal.

He’s got access to a group of personnel that could stop teams from putting up 120 pt games and 35+ Pt quarters at will but he doesn’t know how to deploy or use that personnel.

Go along troll, call your cousin or whatever he is to you and tell him how nothing is his fault ever and you have his back from all the haters no matter what BS you have to use to obfuscate from the main point being made
Pick a team in the NBA.
Now pick that teams hands down two best defenders.
Now take away those two best defenders*

How many of those teams maintain their earlier defensive prowess? And how is building a defensive scheme around your two best defenders a gimmick?

*Rubio and Rondo are also better defenders than Goodwin and Wade a better defender than Love

Play out the season, get healthy, make some personnel tweaks*only Koby knows how minor or major these will be) and then get at it hard next year another year more experience for everybody

Early in the SECOND, Toronto was down 17. Then they started playing.
My bad. I thought I heard the Cavs announcers say they were down 17 midway thru the 3rd.
So I went and checked after the Cavs game and about passed out seeing they were up 27

Individual stats:

Starters:

LeVert 32-6-4 in 38 minutes 11-19 from the field. His breakout or arrival game with the Cavs. Good for him. I expect him to start from now on.
Markkanen 13-6-1 with a block in 33 minutes. Poor shooting, only 1-6 from 3, 4-6 from 2.
Brown 12-9-0 in 21 minutes and his first start. I might have played him 30 minutes.
Okoro 2-3-5 with a steal and 2 blocks. Only 1-5 fg.
Garland 25-5-10 with 4 steals on 10-17 fga. Great game, but normal for him now.

Bench: 28-10-4 in 26 minutes. Not much tonight. This is one reason we lost.
Love 8-5-3 in 26 minutes Only 3-10, 2-7 from 3. Bad shooting.
Goodwin 4-0-0 in 13 minutes
Stevens 16-4-0 in 26 minutes, 6-9 fg and he missed a couple close shots.
Windler 0-0-0 with a steal in 12 minutes.
Nembhard 0-1-1 in 2 minutes

The amazing thing about Doncic is he had 35 points and 13 assists, but 8 of those assists were on 3-point shots. Four more were lobs for dunks. 12 of his 13 assists resulted in either a dunk or a 3. Just insane. In the first quarter Doncic assisted on seven 3's. The Cavs doubled him and he simply hit the open man, usually Finney-Smith, who got on a roll and scored a career high 28 points.

Between points and assists, Doncic had a direct hand in 61 points. Like I said in the preview, if it's close the team with the best player wins. It was close until 87-87 and the Mavs pulled away. Trailing by six points at halftime Luka took over the game in the third, scoring 20 points. He was totally unstoppable. Maybe Mobley could have slowed him down but I doubt it.

Great to see LeVert get going with 32 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. That's the guy we thought we were getting from Indiana. If he can keep that going the rest of the season and we can get Allen and Mobley back for the play-in we could be tough to beat.

Goodwin was a -17 in 13 minutes. The Cavs fall to pieces when Garland is out.

The Cavs were pretty good offensively, scoring 112 against the second best scoring defense in the league. But defensively they were helpless against Doncic, allowing 120 points to a team that averages 107 and was missing Spencer Dinwiddie, a 17 ppg guy.

The Cavs needed better performances from Markkanen and Love, who were 3-for-13 from deep. Okoro had 2 points in 32 minutes on 1-for-5. To beat Dallas the Cavs needed everybody to play well but that was not the case.

Garland had another great game with a line of 25/5/10 and 4 steals. He was a +10. When he was on the bench the Cavs were -18 in 11 minutes.

Well I can’t just pick any team team, but a true elite defensive coach coach a defensive system that’s not reliant on a total gimmick. I mean, just looking at the old Heat teams…or the greats Spurs teams with Pop…when those teams were missing their best players, and yes, also their best defenders…they didn’t turn from an elite defense into a bottom feeder. They had a scheme where their less talented but smart and gritty bench unit used great coaching and a smart scheme that permeated through the entire roster to constantly play tough, gritty defensive games.

Shit, we saw it first hand under Mike Brown a lot.

Elite defensive coaches just don’t see their defenses collapse the way this defense has. They just don’t. We’ve only missed JA and Evan together for 1 game. Only missed JA himself for a short period of time. Our defensive collapse predates BOTH players getting hurt, truly.

I just think we climbed the defensive ladder on the back of a gimmick that threw the league off guard for awhile and we have about an average defensive coach who is an extremely bad offensive coach.

At this point, if we can hold on to the 7/8 spot, get two games , at worse we lose both games,we get to keep our pick….And if that’s the end results, I would be just as happy if not more happy then playing a first round game and getting smoke in 4 games……And then I be LMAO at the Pacers…..

Come on Boobie your better then this, you lost the argue when you mention 2 Great Teams with great Coaching…..We’re in our infant stages right now with our schemes and players……Imagine if we had our top 8 players right now, like the other top teams above us right now, only the Bulls is missing a top 8 rotational player (Ball) and they barely hanging on right now……
