Cleveland Guardians Offseason Discussion 2021-22

Is everyone happy now??

Kind of a silly question right?

Happy that Jose signed at below market value to stay with our team for his whole career? Of course everyone is happy about that.

Do the same weaknesses still exist for this team that did an hour ago? Thats still a major concern too.

But lets not wet blanket this historic day for the franchise.

It wasn’t actually below market though. Jose will likely make more money over the length of this contract than he would have otherwise.

I said I’d view a Jose extension as a sign of doing what they said they would in upping payroll and trying to broaden the winning window.

Good job ownership!

This is where I don't get these rumors .... If Guardians knew 5 yr $25 million was about the range ... why would them be talking trades with other organizations (just builds bad blood when trying to land a player for life). I get they have talks constantly, but deep conversations?

And, what about Padres and a Rosario/Campusano trade?

The only thing that is not in the Guardians best interest is the no trade ... but we have the DH role down the road when kids like Arias/Martinez/Tena boot him from a full time DH role. Who knows if Reyes will even be here in 2025 (or he may have to pick up a glove).

Players give up no trade clauses all the time. It will just mean that he has leverage if a trade makes sense for him and the team.

What would the move you would make now? And, what do you do with Rosario? Keep him to win this year when odds are stocked against us (due to this being the only major move) or trade him for a 2023/24 piece?

They do still have issues, but if it takes them a few years to build a very good offense they know he will still be a very productive part of it.

I've never understood why a player would agree to a long term extension at a reasonable price, because he wanted to remain with that org for his entire career, and not insist on a no trade clause.

It doesnt make sense.

Glad Jose got it.
