2022 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Biggest positive surprise and biggest disappointment so far from under 25 players on the major league team and/or in the minors from an organizational standpoint.

I know it’s still such a small sample size and no one in the org is treating ST and the first 6 weeks as the gospel but surely there are some positive and negative surprises from the developmental team and higher ups perspective?

Biggest surprise?

Gabby Rodriguez for position players. Regaining some of his top international FA hitting profile. Still a ton to like about his game, and still only 20 years old. He has all the makings of being a similar hitting prospect to Valera from the RH side. Just needs it all to come together.

Gavin Williams for pitchers. You can ask anyone in the organization prior to the season. He's good, but we didn't know he'd be this good. Kid with all the unteachable tools you can find (height, length, velo, movement, spin rate due to hand size, etc) who completely embraced the Cleveland pitching system and it's taking him to a different level. Said it before the season began, he's going to be a top 50 prospect in baseball next season...if not higher.

Biggest disappointment?

Aaron Bracho for position players. People forget he was fairly equally as touted as Valera when he was signed. Just has not fared well post-Covid.

Tobias Myers for pitchers. Talk about a move that may look like an absolute whiff when all is said and done if Caminero's game translates over to the states this year.

Who would you rank in your top five positional prospects and top five pitching prospects in the organization right now?

Any concern that Valera isn't taking that next step?

No.

Following a similar pattern to his season last year. Some guys just don’t like hitting in the colder weather. Posted a .569 OPS in May last year and still went on to post a .910 when all was said and done.

I think we can peg Valera as a guy who will struggle to hit during the first month+ of the season when the weather is lousy. Not something we don’t see fairly often in Cleveland. But he draws enough walks and hits for enough power where when the overall #’s aren’t that impressive, he can still impact a game.

Any up and coming DSL pitchers to keep an eye on that can rival our 2nd wave of college pitchers like Curry, Burns and Allen Jr (not fair to compare to Espino and Williams). Or, are they mainly reliever types and thus focus on college starters?

Any prospect juice left in Pestrano (July 19) and Sanquintin (July 18 - the #2 behind G Rodriquez) but still in Arizona for this year?

I know you said you like Paz and Planchart in Lynchburg last year but is there really a big gap between Naylor/Lavastida and Lopez, Iztruis and Mejia in Az complex that a college catcher could fill in this draft (really that and Power RF is what system maybe weak on to fill gaps after Hedges free agency and Maile).

What about Noah Naylor having one of the lowest SwStr% in the system in an org that emphasizes this and is full of contact hitters.
Did he train with his brother in that, who seems much improved there too? Did he change something and is it improved contact ability or just passiveness?

Who do you believe are the MIF (and SP) they'd prefer to protect in trade talks, who would they like to cash in as trade chips and who fall in between?

When is Espino due back and is his injury serious or are we just be highly cautious?

Which of the 2021 Draft Pick Pitchers, other than the early guys who were already on the MLB prospect radar Williams, Nikhazy, Mace, have the most MLB potential? Bibee? Denholm? Rodney Boone? And why?

Thanks!

Reyes choked up on the bat and started to heat up, then promptly stopped choking up and is in a 2-19 stretch. I know this isn’t a “minor league” question, but are folks running out of patience with him?

Deep dive questions:

Tim Herrin: legit, fringe or longshot prospect and why?

Kevin Kelly: I'm irrationally rooting more for this guy than others and he keeps performing, is he still holding the ST velo?

Quietly, Marcos Gonzalez, Raynel Delgado and Yordys Valdes are having decent bounce back seasons. Is there hope left with them as prospects?

Trenton Brooks: is he in the Call/Fermin category within the org or more like M. Rivera/G. Collins?

Will Bartlett: he has one of the lowest SwStr%, yet one of the highest FB%, time to get excited?

Thanks for checking in Bimbo. If Williams continues on his current path will he catch up to Espino now? Can we realistically expect to see both of them in Cleveland by 2024?

This Bibbee kid looks like the real deal too. How in the hell do they keep doing this?

How severe is Tanner Burns' injury? I hope it doesn't keep him out long.
