2022 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
What kind of injuries do A. Planez and Carson Tucker have?

And what's the problem with Petey Halpin? Is he working on a swing change?

Angel Martinez is a top 5 prospect in this system if he keeps this up, right?

Best inner system comp for Jake Fox? I keep saying Tyler Freeman, but they have different profiles (though similar low SwStr%)

Any concerns over Arias' very high SwStr rate (22%), highest in the system with D. Johnson, a hitting profile he keeps reminding me of. All the tools, but lacks the contact ability

Oh crap.. I definitely see a similarity between Jet Johnson and Arias now that you've pointed it out

Johnson was 2 yrs older than Arias at the AAA level. It's not a good comparison at this time. Johnson's development was pretty much at its peak when covid shutdown the 2020 minor league season. Arias was on the upswing.

Having said that, Arias' offensive profile isn't like Rocchio's or Freeman's. He's different and I expect that he'll always carry a higher swing and miss risk. Basically it comes down to this. Prospects like Rocchio and Freeman have a better chance of reaching their ceilings. What Arias brings is a ceiling that neither of those are likely to come close to. Do you believe in the talent or not? There's a legitimate argument for both angles IMO, but for now it appears that the development staff believes in Arias.

Hey @BimboColesHair, what's the staff hoping to see from Battenfield other than consistency at this point? After he throws a few more games and if his performance remains consistent can we expect to see him by the break?

First legit full off day since the season began, so if you have questions shoot em.
Is there concern about Bieber’s velocity within the organization, or is the belief that it was due to the shortened spring training and it will ramp up as the season goes on?

In general is there some concern about the pitching staff due to the elimination of sticky stuff?

Any up and coming DSL pitchers to keep an eye on that can rival our 2nd wave of college pitchers like Curry, Burns and Allen Jr (not fair to compare to Espino and Williams). Or, are they mainly reliever types and thus focus on college starters?

Any prospect juice left in Pestrano (July 19) and Sanquintin (July 18 - the #2 behind G Rodriquez) but still in Arizona for this year?

I know you said you like Paz and Planchart in Lynchburg last year but is there really a big gap between Naylor/Lavastida and Lopez, Iztruis and Mejia in Az complex that a college catcher could fill in this draft (really that and Power RF is what system maybe weak on to fill gaps after Hedges free agency and Maile).

Yorman Gomez, Austin Aldeano are the 2 big DSL pitchers to watch, with guys like Diego Navarro, Victor Garcia behind them.

Big fan of Aldeano. Big fastball, power curve, solid command for a 17 year old DSL pitcher, which you rarely see.

I like Pestrano as a glove still. Very strong defensively. Sanquintin had some family issues and was late getting in, why you aren't seeing him yet. He'll be in Lynchburg. Love his bat and 3B power profile.

And yes, I expect them to take a C in this upcoming draft fairly early.

@BimboColesHair

I see we signed a new "coach" TJ Rivera. Any details on this you can share?

I know this year he is assisting the on-boarding of DSL to USA guys, among other things. I'm sure next year he will have a bigger coaching role.

A lot of people believe he will be an MLB manager someday. I like them grabbing younger coaches with experience playing the game in this day and age with the resources at players disposal. Puts the coach and player on even ground.

What about Noah Naylor having one of the lowest SwStr% in the system in an org that emphasizes this and is full of contact hitters.
Did he train with his brother in that, who seems much improved there too? Did he change something and is it improved contact ability or just passiveness?

That's what Bo came into the pros as and was touted as as an amateur.

A high-rate bat to ball guy with big raw power, just like his brother. All of the Naylor's have an advanced feel for hitting.

And no, no change. He skipped a level after missing an entire season due to Covid and played the entire year in what I think is the toughest jump to make in the minors (the jump to AA). Getting that year under his belt and having a normal off season into a normal season is a bigger deal than many realize.

And as I have mentioned with Josh in the past with regards to his weight, never underestimate how much it means to those 2 to play together at the MLB level on the same team. Huge motivator for both kids.

Who do you believe are the MIF (and SP) they'd prefer to protect in trade talks, who would they like to cash in as trade chips and who fall in between?

No one is untouchable. But my opinion if they were.

Rocchio
Arias
Martinez

Those are the 3 untouchable MIFs.

Tena
Fermin

Those are trade chips

Freeman is in between.

For SP, Williams and Espino are untouchable. Everyone else is fair game.

Mickey Mantle

Ken Griffey Jr a close 2nd

I was just thinking about Ken Girffey Jr today. I was watching Tiger practicing for the PGA Championship and I saw his swing is back. And i was thinking his swing is so beautiful, sex with a golf club. Then it made me think of Griff's beautiful swing.

Then I thought they should make a deal where they teach eachother how to swing with a golf club/bat. Then I realized I am an idot, lol.

Mantle is just way to before my time, but I feel you with Griffey, such an amazing athlete and graceful player.
