Did Koby Altman nail the rebuild?

I think we need to hold off critiquing/praising this draft for a couple weeks until free agency passes. For all we know, Altman plans on shipping out LeVert and/or Okoro for a big wing that would suddenly make the pieces fall into place much smoother.

Can’t (and likely didn’t) draft based on who’s on your team at this moment in time.

Am I the only one who doesn’t really give a shit about “the interview“? Plenty examples of brainiacs bombing out in multiple pro sports. It’s one thing if a guy is an abrasive asshole, it’s another thing if he’s just not articulate. The latter? Who gives a shit.

I understand the Cavaliers are really conscious about the culture. But at some point we need better fucking players at crucial spots. Culture went out the window when the Cavaliers faced better teams. They shit their pants. The Warriors. The Sixers. Culture takes a hike when you have to beat the guy in front of you.

As for the workout, enough about workouts. It’s one data point. It worked out with Garland. Didn’t work out with Okoro. Do you think Draymond Green would look good in a workout?

And to be clear, I’m not upset with you. I’m annoyed that the Cavaliers have now passed up on multiple better players and have roster construction that doesn’t make any sense.

Eason wasn't going to be a Cavalier because he tanked the interviewed and bombed the workout. That's why he wasn't going to be a Cavalier. He apparently had a few bad interviews.

As for SGA and Haliburton. They both forced their way to the destination they wanted and got traded the next year. But they got what they originally wanted. And you can say just draft players who don't want to be here. But chemistry matters and if you draft a guy and they pout until they get traded you wasted a pick. I'm not defending the team for picking Ochai this year or Okoro in 2020. But other factors come into play when drafting that fans and even media don't know.

I just find it funny that Haliburton actually chose the KANGZ, given their recent history. Maybe they'll be able to change it around this time.

Drafted by the Kings but yeah. It was strange. He wanted to play with Fox apparently. So told teams leading up to the draft not to pick him. Kind of funny. He sacrificed some money to go to Sacramento by forcing his way down the draft board and also higher taxes in California.

The culture thing is interesting thing to discuss. I understand trying to bring in guys to build a good culture but I feel like as this team develops that has to become less of a requirement. At some point the culture has to be good enough that it indoctrinates players and you don't need to take high level culture guys because the culture makes new players buy in.

I'm not saying that this culture could take a head case and turn him around but I think some prospect with normal work ethic would probably come in and buy in to put in the work.

I felt this draft might have been the point that we take alittle more risk and not have to go after the highest character or crazy work ethic guys but bet on the culture and go after a high ceiling guy to develop while buying into the Cavs culture.

I do wonder if OKC truly fucked us over like we fucked them over last year with Mobley. Everyone knew the Cavaliers reportedly coveted Dieng and were high on Jalen Williams. OKC got both just ahead of us. I wonder if Agbaji was the third guy on our list because on paper he has 1 elite skill which is catch and shoot from three.

I think OKC knew they had to get ahead of us if they wanted both and gave the Knicks the ammo to get #14. I don't think they wanted to screw us over just because how the lotto fell last year or that we wouldn't trade down with them.

What I do think is OKC has built the assets that they can aggressively go after the players they want especially once you get out of the top 3-5.

I was a fan of Jalen Williams and Dieng but I always knew their talent was enough that both could be taken before we picked. If we wanted one we now know we probably should have been more aggressive to try to get them instead of letting the draft chips fall to us approach.

I also think OKC knows the value of ball handlers/playmakers with size and have aggressively gone after them because they will be able to fill in the other gaps with lesser assets or just by trading some redundant talent.

I’m really trying to figure out when Koby plans on getting a competent wing player who can do multiple things. The team won’t be competing for a ring this coming season but the following season is go time.

It's just weird how he keeps building depth at positions we really don't need additional depth and he refuses to try to take shots at positions of need. Big wing or SF is a big hole. Even backup PG is a hole and seems like one of the easier positions to fill in the draft with a 2nd round pick but it hasn't been addressed. Even if Rubio is coming back, shouldn't we want someone that Rubio can help to develop. How much NBA life does Rubio even have at this point, a couple years.

I think he built depth so he can trade. I think cedi and sexton will be dealt for the wing we need...whoever that is

I mean the theory is Agbaji profiles to be a similar defender to Okoro with a legit 3 point shot. Altman mentioned the shooting when talking about Agbaji which is something others on the team don't have. The weird thing to me if he wanted shooting why didn't he take Griffin who is 4 years younger and a better shooter then Agbaji? Makes no sense to me.
Griffin's knees ??

They tried to see what wings they could get for Sexton last year and didn't come up with anything. I think Agbaji doesn't help solve much because he lacks the ball handling skills just like Okoro to help as a secondary ball handler.

I think Koby is painting himself into a corner with how he has drafted. A ball handling/playmaking wing is extremely valuable in the NBA, it's going to be expensive and hard to acquire one.

Well, last year we had the benefit of drafting ahead of the Thunder, and we took their guy.

This year, they had the benefit of drafting ahead of us, and they took our guys.

It sucks. I had especially warmed up to Jalen Williams in recent weeks. But whatever. Give me Mobley + Agbaji over Giddy + Dieng + Williams 100 out of 100 times.

I'm trying to think of possible scenario's where that might play out but I don't think teams want to give up productive wings for our
excess,,,stuff. I really think our best asset was pick 14...Okoro/Osman/Sexton what are those guys worth?
Maybe we could pry Harrison Barnes from Sacto?
