Why, exactly, would the Cavs have to be willing to do that?

If Sexton just wants to play elsewhere, the Cavs can pull the Q.O., release the cap hold, and let him sign for as much money as he can get.

They don't have to take back bad money and shouldn't.

Cavs would have to be willing means they would have to want to make the trade. Not that they would have to make the trade. The key word was willing. Sextons agency can try to get offers from other teams then see if the Cavaliers can work out a sign and trade with any of those teams. But the Cavs would have to be willing to do something like that.

I added a fun new poll to this thread--

Here's someone's trade idea-- Almost plausible except for the fact that the salaries don't work though because of Base Year Compensation.

Cleveland Cavaliers Receive: G Spencer Dinwiddie ($18Mil for 2022-23), 2025 First-Round Pick (DAL)

Dallas Mavericks Receive: G Collin Sexton

Id rather keep Collin I think, 2025 first is going to be a late first rounder and I am not sure Spencer is a better player today let alone over the life of Collin's new deal.

Day 4 of FA, no deal in place yet. Whats the scoop? My sources indicate I have no idea what's going to happen, but I'm thinking a 3/60M or 4/75M deal gets done. That salary cap boost helps the flexibility, plus with KLove coming off the books next year and we don't have to pay Mobley for a few years, there's plenty of cheddar to go around! Get a deal done Cavs!

I'd rather lose Sexton for nothing than trade him for DinWiddie. I have zero interest in taking back a player like DinWiddie who is also on a bad contract.

I'll never understand fans who root for their team to sign players to bad contracts.

Has anyone listened to Fedor’s most recent pod where he talks about the Collin situation? Haven’t had a chance yet but apparently it’s pretty good

Mavs roster is full of bad contracts. It's rather ridiculous how much they are overpaying mediocre roleplayers. The irony is Brunson was probably the best of the bunch and they chose not to resign him when they had several chances to do so.
