2022 Season Series #33 | Diamondbacks @ Guardians | August 1-3, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
McKenzie outpiched by Gallen. Bad outing for Tristan - he was not ready to go in the first inning. Walked the first two batters. No commad whatsoever. Grooved a fastball to Walker for home run #25 after a walk and a bloop. Just like that it's 3-0 D-Backs and we lose by 3.

It would have been worse if not for a base running error that cost them a run.

Gimenez with another hit and two walks. What a series he's having; 5-for-7 with two walks. Naylor is 0-for-8. I wonder if he is OK. He doesn't look good.

Somehow we let catcher Chris Kelley, a .226 lifetime hitter who is at .228 this year, hit a single, double, and home run. I would advise against throwing him any more high fastballs.

Speaking of catchers, nice to see a Guardians catcher contribute with the bat. Maile had two hits and two RBI's.

The White Sox are up 8-2 on KC but the Twins are down 2 runs in the 8th. If those scores hold the G's will be one game back and the White Sox two.

Rays lose, Twins lose. Yankees down to their last out, against the M’s, but they have the bases juiced.

Edit: Mariners win.

Small sample sizes, but that what a seasonal vet can do to a rookie, in some cases with ease…….
Not exactly ideal situations for young players. I'd rather they get a few AB than a single one late in the game. Oh well!

Honestly though even when our starters have bad games they at least can go deep into the ball games....

Rubber game today at 1:10 p.m., Bieber against rookie Tommy Henry.

Bieber's primary objective is to not make any mistakes to their power hitters. The D-Backs have scored 11 runs in the first two games and 8 came on home runs. Six of their 11 runs have come on two 3-run homers by Christian Walker, who now has 25. Both came on fastballs up.

Duh. If he comes up with two men on I would recommend breaking balls. Any fastballs need to be down and away or above the strike zone. He's hitting .203. He's obviously a mistake hitter. Just avoid high fastballs in the strike zone to Walker with runners on and we eliminate more than half the runs they've scored.

The Snakes are 28th out of 30 in batting average. They're not going to score four runs by stringing a lot of hits together. But as I pointed out in the original post, they are 3rd in the majors in road home runs. They are not good hitters, but they crush mistakes. You can't make any with men on base.

Bieber has been hot and cold his last four starts, allowing 5, 1, 6, and 1 runs. Hopefully he breaks the good start/bad start pattern today. He has an amazing W-L record following a Guardian loss and hopefully he continues that pattern this afternoon.

The Bally announcers said last night that Shane felt his last start was his best of the season and that he's finally got everything working. If that carries over to today we're in good shape. None of the Diamondback hitters have ever faced Bieber and that should be to his advantage.

The Diamondbacks were supposed to start Madison Bumgarden but according to MLB and ESPN this morning they are starting a kid from their AAA club, lefty Tommy Henry, who will be making his major league debut at age 25. In 20 starts at Reno Henry is 4-4, 3.83 with a WHIP of 1.34. He was their 13th ranked prospect by Fangraphs last January.

The Guardians have been awful against lefties all season but they got to McClannahan the other day so they should be able to get something going against the rookie. With the mighty Astros coming to town for four games (with Bieber not facing them) this would be a good game to win as we try to keep pace with the Twins and White Sox, who both helped themselves with trades yesterday.

By the way, is anybody besides me annoyed at how Matt, Rick, and Andre yuk it up continuously? They seem to be constantly laughing. And 95% of the comments that send them into uproarious laughter are slightly amusing at best. It's like they keep getting bored with the game and decide to shoot the shit about something else until something happens on the field to pull them back to the game.

For example, one thing that annoys me is when the Guardians get a runner on third with less than two out in a close game, I want to know if the opponent is playing the infield in or are they back to concede a run on a ground ball? From the centerfield camera you can't see the infielders. That's something I would really like to know. But most of the time these guys are just yukking it up and don't bother to mention it. Maybe since they can see it they assume the viewers can, too.

This year I've had to watch a few games on ESPN, my local sports network, and Apple TV. It really gave me an appreciation of how bad these guys are.

Like in the first game of this series when the D-Backs manager kept changing pitchers. The Bally crew's "analysis" consisted of "Boy, he's sure using a lot of pitchers." What he was doing was bringing in a lefty every time the G's had the middle third of their order coming up, which included Naylor, Gimenez, Miller (hitting a mere .193 against lefties), and Nolan Jones. By doing this he was able to hold the G's scoreless with his bullpen for seven innings and force the game to extras. It was brilliant managing (as opposed to Tito who only removes a pitcher after he gets shelled), but the Bally bozos had no comment other than to note he was changing pitchers frequently.

I guess they never thought to wonder why.

Well, we know they're not trading Rosario. What gives? Oh, I get it. We need another left-handed hitter on the bench.

Or maybe we're trying to set a record for most players making their major league debuts in the same season. Freeman will be #12 if I'm not mistaken.

I think maybe they get along to well and they have worked so much together that they have a million inside jokes and whatnot. They didn't used to be that bad... lol

Freeman is hitting .438 (21-for-48) over his last 12 games and they like to bring guys up when they're swinging the bat well to help them get off to a good start.

Freeman is a right handed lol
Oh yeah, thanks! I didn't think we drafted right-handed hitters. Maybe he's the exception that proves the rule.

Clement is hitting .203 and is 26 years old. Maybe this is their deadline "trade", Clement for Freeman.

Yeah, 14 years together for Rick and Matt, and now six years for Andre. A lot of stories to drag out when the action gets slow. Some may like it but I find that listening to three guys all laughing loudly at the same time distracting, especially when it occurs many times each game.
