I think he means demoted back AAA, not bumped completely. Freeman and Arias are coming for his time and needs to produce or get stepped over..

Amed on the roster doesn't help Owen at all, as one of his pursuers would likely fill Amed's roster spot... So it's put up or shut up time.
That is what I meant but even then its easy to see Miller being the UIF guy next season if Amed gets traded in the off season. Miller will continue to get at least semi regular playing time in that case.

From the PD:

Plesac bumped back

Aaron Civale will start the opening game of Cleveland’s road trip Tuesday in San Diego, bumping Zach Plesac back to Aug. 27 in Seattle. The move dashes any hope of a rematch between Plesac and ex-Cleveland teammate Mike Clevinger at Petco Park.

Clevinger, traded to the Padres in 2020, made his return to the big leagues earlier this season following elbow surgery that cost him the 2021 campaign when he faced Plesac at Progressive Field in the opening game of a doubleheader on May 4. Clevinger lasted 4 2/3 innings, but took a no-decision in a game the Padres eventually won, 5-4.

Plesac, winless since June 5, is 0-7 in his last 12 starts with a 4.18 ERA and 24 walks in 64 2/3 innings.

Plesac’s drought is the longest by a Cleveland starting pitcher since Sam Hentges also went 12 winless starts from May 12 through Aug. 26 last season. No Cleveland starter has experienced a longer winless streak within a single season since Brent Strohm went 15 straight without a victory from April 13 to July 27 of 1973.

Tidbit from BR;

And for Clase to have 2.4 bWAR as a relief pitcher is impressive. Only Edwin Diaz (2.7), David Robertson (2.7) and Brock Burke (2.5) rate higher, and not by much. Clase has a 1.22 ERA and a 0.66 WHIP to go along with his AL-best 28 saves.

The 0.66 WHIP is the really ridiculous part. Among the roughly 200 pitchers who have logged at least 50 innings this season, the next-lowest WHIP belongs to Seattle reliever Penn Murphee at 0.85. Clase could literally walk 10 batters without recording an out in his next appearance and still sit atop that list.

Miller has actually played a very strong 1B defense as of late. Since he does have good foot speed I wonder what he might be able to provide for the team if he could play the OF as well, enhancing his value as a bench contributor. But this does not always work out (see: Palacios).
I think @BimboColesHair mentioned the team was hoping he could be our version of Ben Zobrist (having a solid bat playing multiple positions). Unless I’m thinking of another player then I apologize.

They're trying that with a few players just to see what sticks. Always do with every prospect rotation.

A guy like that can manufacture everyday ABs if they are a talented enough hitter.

We've talked about the possible call ups when rosters expand. Morris' name has been mentioned by just about all of us, but are we forgetting Vargas? I'll have to look to see how he's been pitching.

Yeah, he hasn't given up a hit or a walk in his last 5 appearances. Hasn't given up a run in his last 7. If he keeps it up then he might get a call.

I'd think they would want to see Morris over Vargas in 22... More of the, let's see the older guy with more innings under his belt.

Maybe some Guardians mention in this article but it’s behind a paywall

Naylor just needs to be off the field as much as possible IMO.
I don't agree. I think he's doing a solid job defensively at first base and he will only get better with experience. Up until this year he's been splitting time between outfield and first base. Now that he's exclusively a 1B his defense will get better.

Naylor has stolen second and third base in the last week or so. He seems to be running pretty well (for him). If the ankle was still bothering him he wouldn't be stealing bases. He also went from first to third on a single to left center during our big six-run rally in the 8th the other day.

For right now I would like to see Freeman playing every day in place of Hosey, Amed, and Gimenez. Just rotate the three of them at DH every third day to keep them fresh for the stretch run. Miller can play 1B for Naylor once a week against a LHP, not that Miller hits them better than Naylor (Miller .186 vs. lefties, Naylor .203).

Edit: Fangraphs ranks Naylor 12th defensively out of 61 first basemen who have played at least 100 innings at the position this year.

These next six games on the west coast against San Diego (35-26 at home) and Seattle (31-26 at home) will be crucial. After these next two series the Guardians will have 24 home games remaining and only 12 road games. This gives them a huge advantage over the White Sox and Twins from a schedule perspective.

This west coast trip ends Sep. 28. As of Sep. 29 it looks like this for remaining games:

Guardians: 24 home, 12 away
White Sox: 17 home, 16 away
Twins: 15 home, 22 away (including four at the Yankees)

As of now we're up 3.0 on the White Sox and 1.5 on the Twins (who are down by a run in the 7th against Texas).

If the Guardians can emerge from these next six games in a dead heat with the Twins and Sox they should have the upper hand the rest of the way. The Twins especially would be at a disadvantage since the Guardians would play 9 more home games and 10 fewer road games than Minnesota.

Even against the White Sox we play 7 more home games and 4 fewer road games after these two west coast series are over. And we're up three games on them after they lost today. If Kopech is out for a while they're really in trouble.

As I see it the Guardians just need to be in first place or even tied for first after the next six games. If they are they will have a big schedule advantage over the last 36 games. That doesn't guarantee anything, but it's a great advantage to have.

I actually agree he shouldn't be playing a ton in the field for awhile... He still isn't 100%

Lots of K's, doubt he'll perform too well but if he does get going they can have a very interesting young core of position players with Witt, Pasquantino, Melendez, maybe Isbel, Olivares might be a late bloomer... Problem is they don't have much in the way of arms outside of Singer, the others are all clearly not there yet although Lynch at least looks like a rotation piece. Alec Marsh was supposed to be their guy and he can't really throw strikes. Maybe they'll keep signing Greinke to 1 year contracts lol.
Pasquantino was removed from the CWSox game with what they called a sore shoulder.. Who gets yanked from a game for a sore shoulder.. more information has to be forthcoming...

We’ll, apparently Pasquantino gets for a sore shoulder.
