Everyone's Top 10 Video game list!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm not interested unless Miyazaki is doing it. Bluepoint is great at remakes, but I don't trust anyone but Miyazaki at new entries.

That being said, sign me up for a Bloodborne sequel.

Supposedly From is already finished developing their next major release, as well. Curious to see what it is.
Sounds like it’s Armored Core.

Hopefully we get one of these bad boys as part of the limited edition.

I always wanted something like this for a Zoids Battle Legends type of game... You pilot the zoid using like the inside of a cockpit like they show in the anime.

I don’t think I can rank them in a particular order, but here are some that have really impacted me in my life:

-World of Warcraft
A lot of online gaming experiences in my life have legitimately impacted who I am. WoW takes the cake here. Being a part of a successful raiding guild required a special kind of drive and selfless attitude. Running one in my adult life took even more. I made friends and had countless experiences in this game that will last my lifetime.

-League of Legends
The amount of emotional regulation and critical, objective thinking needed to find success in League and improve as a player applies to any skill in spades. Truly the competitive gaming gauntlet and the foundation of mainstream esports.

-Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft
I always had an affinity for card games growing up. I loved Pokemon, I jumped on the yu GI oh train, and I played some MtG in college. Then I found Hearthstone and actually got good at card games. In terms of objective ranking, this is the best I’ve ever been at a particular game. I was in the top .1% of players but over a year and met friends through an online league that are still some of my best. No other game has come close to matching the user experience of an online card game like HS.

-Halo 2
This is where it started. My Xbox 360 and Xbox Live that I used to play Halo for hours on end. This game was generational. It’s online community features were unmatched, and the way custom lobbies worked so seamlessly has yet to be replicated well. Anyone who regularly played understands.

-Ocarina of Time
My first true fantasy sword and board rpg experience. That sense of wonder when you make it out of the Deku tree and look across Hylian Field, while seemingly small now, was grandiose when I was a kid.

-Deus Ex
This game is an all-timer. I’ve replayed it as a couple years ago and honestly it holds up great. The story was incredible and the impactful player choices were way ahead of its time. I have not played a better steampunk type of game, and I doubt I ever will.

-Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion
This game has not held up well at all and isn’t one id recommend anyone play today. That said, this game blew my mind when I played it and I became quickly obsessed. Talk about truly open world. The side quests were good, the factions had a ton of depth, and the world was inviting yet unforgiving. I’ll never forget one day in rhe summmer when I didn’t move from the time my dad left work to when he came home. He wasn’t happy. It was worth it.

-Pokemon Yellow
My game boy color and Pokémon Yellow was my first true “game system” ever. It was just mine and it ignited a real love. I’ve never stopped enjoying pokemon and will definitely play the new ones.

@Cassity14 calling a cheap, casual knock-off of dota the foundation of esports is fighting words.

Starcraft and Counter-Strike are the foundations of modern esports, but Dota comes next.

Top prize pools in gaming history:

The classic “but the prize pool” from Dota. They hold one major event per year. That doesn’t lift esports off the ground because it doesn’t build regular interest.

I think StarCraft and CSGO certainly were first, but League took it to the next level and is the backbone of the industry right now. My wording was poor, but ultimately I think League has done more for esports than any other individual franchise.

I mean, that's just not true. There are four majors every year outside of TI. And yeah, after launching the game with a previously-unheard-of million dollar prize pool, I love keeping that tradition. There's nothing else in ESports like The International.

"But the prize pool" isn't even the argument. Dota is the original. It's the more complex and demanding. It's the more polished game.

I'd say that Dota to LoL is like MtG is to Hearthstone, but I saw Hearthstone's place on your list :chuckle:

I don't think there's any way to defend that position. HoN, LoL, Heroes of the Storm, and all the other Dota clones don't even exist if it weren't for Eul, Guinsoo and IceFrog creating and maintaining/developing dota.

The fact that Riot had to hire two old dota devs to make a simpler, more approachable clone of the game speaks volumes, as does Riot trying to trademark the name "Dota" when Valve announced Dota 2.

Saw them mentioned already but a few of my favorites, many of which are nostalgia picks for sure:

Witcher 3
Dragon Age Origins
Elder Scrolls Oblivion
Mass Effect trilogy
Runescape
Total War Warhammer
LOTR Battle for Middle Earth
Divinity Original Sin 2 (I'm hyped for Baldur's Gate 3)
NBA 2k before it became a clear money grab with microtransactions and crazy amounts of grinding.

Earthbound
Skyrim
Fallout 3
Command and Conquer: Red Alert
NBA2k Franchise
GTA V
The Last of Us part 1
Until Dawn
Legend of Dragoon
Mega Man X

Too lazy to put huge blurbs next to them today. I'm open to discussing any of these though. Anyway, here is the back half of my top 10:

6) Mass Effect Trilogy. Yep, including the whole trilogy as one. Fuck off. Anyways, space opera at its finest. Mass Effect 2 I give credit for getting be "back" into gaming. I had stopped playing video games when I went to Ohio State. I had loved ME1 and one day was just like screw it, and preordered ME2 and grabbed it on launch day. Been back into gaming ever since. Think I've played through it 4-5 times, maybe more.

7) The Last of Us. Played this one late. Back in 2017 or 2018 when I bought a PS4. One of like two games to get me emotional, honestly. Not much to be said about this one. It's an all-timer.

8) Red Dead Redemption 2. Same as above. One of the few games to get me emotional. Such a grueling game in some ways, I certainly can say I enjoyed it but it was more of an experience than a game I picked up to play for fun. Have not gone back to it and not sure I ever will, yet this game is like etched in my memory forever, I think.

9) Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. I mean, this should go without saying. Love Star Wars, and this is one of the best Star Wars games if not THE best. Great story, great twist, really fun dive into the Star Wars mythos. Played through several times which is hella rare for me (granted I was just a kid when I played this, much more free time). Would just kill for another Star Wars RPG in this fashion. I guess I'll have to settle for the remake.

10) Assassin's Creed II. Actually picked this up alongside ME2, and I also give this credit for getting me back into gaming. Had never played the first one, and took a flier due to the buzz it was getting. Glad I did. I don't think to this day this series has gotten back to the heights of AC2.

Honorable Mentions:

Total War: Warhammer II
Hollow Knight
Half Life
Halo 1-3
Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Total Annihilation
Perfect Dark
Goldeneye
Mario 64
Metroid Prime
Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast

That's about it. Had to give some oldies some credit in the Honorable Mentions.
