No it's not completely closed coach. They can petition for a player not on the 40 man prior to Sept 1(or whatever the date was) to be eligible for the spot of a player on the 60 day IL. They question I have is if Benson would be demoted can they petition for Brennan to take Gose's spot on the roster. Somebody posted the rule recently. I'll try to find it.

The one they posted said it's too late at the moment... if they get another injury, they can petition, but we really don't want that. I don't want to deal with any injuries...

Can you help us out here? Is there an outside chance that Brennan can be on the playoff roster as Gose's replacement?

If they want him eligible they’ll be able to make him eligible.

This is more about evaluation and moving Oscar out of the OF more.

As in, DH, or something where they may be willing, once it’s wrapped, to give him looks at first to spell Naylor?

Odds are whoever replaces Amed next season in the lineup will be worse in the short-term (meaning 2023). It’s rare for young guys to hit the ground running.

Still, Amed is an average bat with a below-average glove. No sense in extending him. Seeking a trade partner this winter is the right thing to do.
So we continue to want to trade Rosario. Glad you guys are not in the front office.
Good grief

Oscar is not a good defensive player. Just has never had a natural skill out there outside of his arm talent. Been trending in a horrible direction analytically in RF over the last few months. Approaching Franmil territory analytically in RF recently.

He should be the primary DH moving forward, but still able to get a few games a week out in RF to give Naylor a day off his feet or one of the other everyday position players.

We are on the cusp of an empire boys..

Team chemistry is the best since 2016 at least, tons of quality youngsters, low payroll, weak division..

Who would've thought that the 2022 1st year Guardians would be such a joy and the story is just beginning.
This club has restored my interest in baseball.

In recent years, baseball games and coverage seem focused on HRs and Ks, with little action
in between. These plays dominate hi-light shows.

The Guardians play baseball the way in the manner that made me fall in love with
the game and go out collecting milk bottles to turn in for the money for a
bleacher or general admission ticket.

Other major coverage is how much money a player signs for. Who the f&%# cares beyond
the team owner and family of the player?

I am old enough to remember when players drove cars like you'd see in most average neighborhoods
and there was a chance of seeing a player out at regular beer joint or local eatery. Not like now when
the players in many cities, even during ST, have their gated parking areas at the venue where
they don't have any interaction with fans.

Do they still have home games where some players are at the gates greeting fans as they
enter the stadiums? I also remember the picture days when they let fans on the field before
the game and players would be available for a bit a personal contact with fans.

Just the ramblings of an old timer.

Thank you for clarifying!

From Mandy Bell's article:

"The only other way a player can become eligible is if they are replacing an injured player and have been in the organization since at least Aug. 31. In this case, Brennan could replace someone such as Anthony Gose, who is out for the rest of the year after underdoing Tommy John surgery."

But that, if I remember right, isn’t factual. Benson took Gose’s spot previously.

Tidbit from the Athletic:

Kwan told Francona he’d show Brennan around on his first day. The manager was appreciative of the way one rookie could guide another. Kwan and Brennan chatted in right field during defensive practice before the game.

“That’s my hero,” Brennan said.

“He’s being a little dramatic with that,” Kwan countered.

Good to hear this. I have been hoping for this for a while, from he or Benson (who hasn't shown much) but now that he's on the 40 man I'm all in on Brennan for the time being. The best thing is that the offense will likely be getting better than anything. Taking the bats of Miller/Palacios out of the lineup is no sacrifice.

Let's be the 2014/2015 Royals with top rated OF defense making the WS. (Honestly not expecting much in the playoffs but hey crazy things can happen)

You're either missing the intent altogether or you're not seeing both parts of this argument.. It's about 60/40 to trade Rosario with the primary caveat being length & co$t of the extension needed to retain him..

Amed's making just under $ 5 MM in his ARB II season.. He would be due approximately double that (a speculative guess) for ARB III. If he agrees to an extension it would be more years.. less AAV.. Anything else, then it becomes a cost/return evaluation..

For S&G's let's say that Brennan continues to perform just as he has all season. The OF defense immediately becomes the best in baseball when Kwan, Straw and Brennan are out there. The offensive improvement is significant as well. Brennan could/would become your 2 hole hitter effectively moving Rosario and his low OBP down in the order.
