Fangraphs has Oscar's defensive value at -2.8. The only players worse on our team are Owen -2.8, Palacios -4.5, and Naylor -5.0. Franmil this year for us in a SSS was -7.4.

Fangraphs is being generous.. every fly ball with Spongebob is an adventure.. everything from securing the ball as it enters his mitt to the Magellan like routes he takes to the ball...

Can he get better?.. without a doubt.. there is a LARGE margin to improve with the OG..

What you aren't getting is Gose was moved to the 60 day IL to add Benson to the 40 man... Gose has been on the 60 day IL since August 1st... Brennan cannot be put onto the playoff roster unless we have another injury. There isn't anything else to it. Brennan just isn't playoff eligible

He is making all the routine plays though... He isnt really making errors out there so we can be okay with him out there. We will have a Benson type as the 4th OF anyways, so we will be fine

I think I'm getting it just fine thank you. What you're not getting is that the final playoff roster has not been determined yet so if they choose to put Brennan on it as opposed to Benson or any other player then they can do so. There is nothing in the rules that state whoever was added to the 40 for an injured player has to be on the playoff roster.

Fangraphs Defensive Rating is generous because it is a heavily flawed metric.

Oscar's route efficiency in the OF is worse than Franmil's has ever been, bottom 10th percentile amongst all qualified defenders.

Not only does he take poor routes, he gets poor jumps on the ball. 18th percentile in jump efficiency amongst all qualified defenders.

Couple those together and he makes less outs in RF than the average player should. His -4 outs above average figure right now would be Franmil's worst season since 2018.

Now please, someone go grave dig on how I said Oscar is Franmil-esque in the OF again like I was wrong.

For all who didn't know that's mainly driven by positional adjustment for DH / 1B. Both Miller and Naylor actually are getting "above average" grades for the 1B that they do play.

You get more credit for playing RF as you probably should so I expect Oscar's defensive value calculations to be a higher negative if he's DHing, but the sum total of everyone's should increase because you're replacing a DH with a DH and a RF with a better RF.
