2022 Season - Week #5 - Chargers @ Browns - 10/9 - 1 pm on CBS

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'd say (talent-wise) they're better than 2-3, but not by much. DT and S are black holes on defense. WR room is still pretty thin (Cooper's synergy with Brissett has been a nice surprise, though). Backup QB is... playing like a backup QB.

Still, I predicted this team would go 9-8 on the year, losing a few games they shouldn't and winning a few games they shouldn't. So far, this season is playing out that effect.

There have been serious problems all over the place in this one.

The offense called the wrong play on 4th and inches. There were some really dumb penalties. Kicker had an objectively bad day. The interception in the end zone was ugly. I don't think the safeties and defensive interior linemen are going to stop the run all year. Denzel Ward continues to have an awful start to this year. And yes, I do think Woods was outsmarted at times in this one.

But the NFL is a more flat talent level than the pundits want to admit.

The Browns weren't all that much better than the teams they beat, and they weren't much worse than the teams who beat them. They have made terrible plays at the wrong times, and this season it's been constant.

This doesn’t hurt as bad as the other losses

Chargers twitter lighting us up is pretty funny

I missed the game, but watched it on replay. We should have won. 2 missed field goals and an interception are deadly.

When people say they are annoyed with the fanbase, I am blown away.

Games like this build absolutely no good will with a fan base. And this team has had dozens of them.

They invent ways to lose. Statistics flash up that Browns have lost in ways teams haven’t in 50 some odd years or never before.

People don’t like that shit.

They also shouldn’t support it. That’s their own fault. Spend your money on the Guardians.

All that said, I enjoy it when I see people ripping the shit out of this franchise. However irrationally they may choose to do it, the Browns deserve to be ripped and the fans deserve to vent.

The franchise has put in the work one ridiculous loss, bad draft pick and failed regime at a time. The fans are just fans. People who irrationally spend their time and money on a silly failed product

Same, and I hate myself just about every week for it. :chuckle:
I bitch about spending $300+ for the Ticket and watching all sixteen losses in 2017 as if it's a goddamn badge of honor. This season is the first time in like a decade that I've opted to save money and go instead with streams that will probably be infecting my devices with herpes.

Somewhere in those analytics does it mention that "fuck it, you're playing the Browns and they'll find a way to lose no matter what you choose"?
That hurts.

This team shouldn't be 2-3, that's why people are booing heavily. 3-2 at the absolute worst. Playoff hopes are dwindling after every game in the tough AFC.

We did call Staley brain dead, analytics side with him.

It was 100% the correct decision.

The Chargers marched up and down the field all day long on the Browns and you’re faced with 2 yards to guaranteed victory.

Subsequently the Chargers defense had sucked all day and you’re gonna willingly give the ball back to the opposing team only up 2 where a field goal beats you.

If you’re Staley, what do you trust more?

Your offense that racked up almost 500 yards picking up 2 or your defense that had given up 450 keeping the Browns from getting into FG range?

I just wish the Browns had taken advantage when the defense got the surprising stop.

I was on the side of pinning Jacoby inside the 10 and banking on him leading the charge with no timeouts, especially considering he failed that scenario vs NY and ATL, and got bailed out vs Carolina with a roughing penalty. I like those odds better than handing them a FG. That decision only looks good because Browns failed, not because Staley is a genius.
