2022 Post-Season | Division Series | Yankees vs. Guardians | Oct. 11 - ?, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Incredible night at the park.. The buzz in the crowd when they went ahead.. the quiet/stillness when they were tied.. the absolute silence when they went down by two..

Great crowd.. a few NYY fans, but not many.. and what a way to walk it off..

Arias is the goods.. there is nothing he can't do inside the white lines.. He should play every day...

Naylor looks worn/fatigued.. DH'ing him is a good idea.. Love his fire..hate his extra effort swing....

NYY's positioning..whoever does that for them.. should have his salary paid by the Guardians.. it's almost like the positions these guys are moved from is where the ball went..

On paper Rosario is very replaceable... He has become a leader in the clubhouse, so that part I don't like messing with, but his actual batting production and defensive metrics, are pretty easy to replace on paper. By metrics, he has solid contact skills, but he doesn't take walks, low SLG% and plays below average defense at SS. He has gotten better with the defense this season, but we have 3-4 guys who play better SS defense already on the roster. These young guys can replace the numbers. Don't get attached to Rosario...
Seems to be a pretty important part of what they’re doing. Maybe it’s just me.

If Cole starts tomorrow and Arias starts as well, who sits? Brennan like today? I know some would like Straw but we know that's not happening.

Straw gets a lot of shit, but no way he sits. He has actually rebounded quite well in his last 30-40 games especially for a #9 hitter.

We are perhaps closing in on the same reality that the Houston Astro's found themselves in... That is a good problem to have, but for now Myles Straw is welcome to ass-groove the 9 hole 24/7.

Same lineup as today IMO.

Wrong Brian Anderson.... This BA used to do MKE Brewer broadcasts IIRC....
& I find no record of Jeff Francouer ever being in the CLE system...
Francouer was in spring training in 2014, released near the end of the spring to both give him a shot to latch on somewhere and prevent Tito from taking him north.

Seriously, a few thoughts.

They had five base runners tonight. Every one of them scored on the three home runs. If the Yanks don't hit home runs, they generally can't score.

We had fifteen base runners. We don't hit many home runs, so the idea is to flood the bases with so many runners that enough will score to win the game.

*********

We get a fair share of bloop hits. A percentage of those type of hits get caught by our guys. Thats an advantage for us...and its shown up two games in a row.

Defense generally isn't valued highly enough. Judge hit a two run home run tonight. Kwan made a tough catch last night that saved at least two runs. Which had more value? But which gets the most attention?

******

Our advantage in pitching depth in the bullpen can't be overstated. We used our big three relievers last night, and still had Hentges, DLS, and Morgan left for tonight. Meanwhile, Girardi is screwed in the pen, which we've seen two nights in a row. His last reliever in both games were doing something that was totally unfamiliar to them...and it showed.

********

I think that an advantage we have...whether it be large or small I dont know...is that our kids think this is the way it always works, because this is all they know. They know NOTHING ELSE.

Right now they think every season is like this, that they will be playing post season games every year. I'm not sure that they are playing up to the occasion as much as its not a baseball life and death situation to them, so they don't have to play up to anything.

There is much more pressure on any veteran team these kids play.

Memo to Steve Cohen, the players that Cleveland got for the the Lindor trade are still playing ball and Lindor is counting his money with his child on his knee telling him what a great country America is.

Gimenez & Rosario have blossomed under Tito Francona, along with Yankees draft pick LHP Trevor Stephan (Rule 5 pick for Cleveland from the Yankees). Meanwhile Lindor took all that money and Carrasco is good when healthy but he’s always injured. Tito and his staff develop young players. Jose Ramerez is the only star player that turned down money to stay with the Indians, as he said he likes the clubhouse and culture with Francona’s Teams. Yankees need that type of clubhouse and culture that helps promote closeness. Yankees have great talent. I don’t think there is a belief in the management to get them where they want to go.
