2022 Post-Season | Division Series | Yankees vs. Guardians | Oct. 11 - ?, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Well next year you have to start pushing the boulder from the bottom of the hill. The Central is not promised and we may not be favorites. This is why the game 1 failures are so frustrating.

Let’s try to win the division next year. Winning the Central and the play in round was nice, but ultimately we lost in round 1 and we had the worse team.

A looong winter and 162 in front of us.

In hindsight you start Hentges or Stephan and then transition to Civale, Plesac or Bieber depending on the score.

Bieber should've pitched today (not saying he should've started). That's my opinion, no need to argue with me I won't argue with yours.

I don’t think the question is really about Bieber. It’s really a matter of you just can’t start Civale in that spot. Dude hasn’t pitched in forever and his stats were horrible against the Yankees. I could have got behind any scenario other than Civale starting. I just can’t fathom throwing a guy who hasn’t faced the postseason pressure at all in the defining game of your season.

Yeah this is very fair. Civale is HR prone and always has been. Letting him face four hitters who combined to hit 149 homers this year in a park that is extremely homer friendly was always a huge risk.

They were playing with fire from the jump and unfortunately got burned.

At the end of the day, Tito failed in the highest leverage game. And I love Tito, but he Stefanski’d this one

What would you have done differently? The only thing for me was the Eli Morgan decision that was questionable. But today, no matter who you trotted out there, we scored 1 run. Anyone would have lost.

I find it hilarious that something Naylor's been doing all year somehow became some Yankee-focused national story this week as if he just started acting like that
Again, what he did yesterday is clearly not what he did all year.

We're not going to win many Cole vs. Quantrill or Cortes vs. Civale games. Especially when Civale hasn't pitched in 12 days and depends on pinpoint command of several pitches to be effective. When he walked the leadoff hitter on four pitches I knew we were dead. I've never seen him open a game with a four-pitch walk, or any kind of walk for that matter.

This series was probably lost in the first half of the season when the Yankees were 30 games over .500 and we were maybe one game over. They ended up with the better record and were able to pitch Cole and Cortes twice each while we started Bieber and McKenzie once. The ability to set their rotation and the home field advantage was the difference. But there should be a reward for a better regular season record.

They also out-homered us 9-3 and scored almost all their runs on homers. They hit .182 but the power and starting pitching carried the day.

It was unfair to ask Civale to face the Yankees after not pitching in almost two weeks. I was in favor of it but in retrospect they probably should have just gone with the bullpen as far as they could and then go with Plesac or Morris.

The bullpen gave up two runs and we scored one (and that was lucky) so even if Civale pitches two perfect innings we still lose 2-1.

Started Bieber. Kept Civale as long relief in case Shane didn’t have it. But he pitched a 1pm game last Friday so was kind of on 3.5 days rest. He should have gotten the ball and we would be talking Houston imo

Our guys had a lot of success this year and got great experience in chasing a division title, winning a playoff series and taking the ALDS to 5 games. There will be some changes in the offseason and the next waive is very close now. Plus we have an ownership succession in place. I'm going into the offseason feeling very, very, good about this franchise.

Again, what part of scoring 1 run today did you miss? I'm not defending Civale because he didn't have it today... but our offense scored one run. ONE.
