WWE/NXT/AEW/NJPW Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
AEW was pretty wack last night -- come to think of it, gosh they suck.

The outside the ring move Lethal put on Darby where he got Lethals feet to the gut and flipped up wards then forced himself to run into the stairs was by far the fakest shit I ever seen. Then, Double J's old ass. He's in great shape though and brought back some late WCW heel stuff+theme.
Can it, slapnuts

AEW has sucked lately. Outside of MJF's promos, I am bored.

TK's booking is lame. Where is Miro? Why is Wardlow pairing with Samoa Joe for some reason? Why is FTR only around every 3-4 weeks?

I hope the return of the Elite, Cole, KOR, and Malakai is the shot in the arm at the end of the year they need.

I am looking forward to watching some blood money matches this weekend at least.

Happy blood money covered dick day, bois.

Watched Crown Jewel yesterday and wanted to speak on Logan Paul and just WWE VS AEW as a whole…

The wrestling is simply better in WWE. Stuff makes sense, the stars are on the show every week and show to show feuds just seem more important in WWE. Tony Khan while i like the guy, is a horrible Booker. He is piss poor at capitalizing on momentum and he’s even worse at CREATING the momentum. Most the good stuff that happens in AEW is due to organic interest from the wrestlers themselves. There hasn’t been one feud lately where I’m like “jeez Tony is smart for pairing these 2 guys together”. I mean look at Bandido and Will Osprey. 2 dudes that got over in the ring and NO ATTEMPT to capitalize has been made on either of their momentum. After Bandido lost to Y2J i would’ve had him on that weeks Rampage and next weeks Dynamite cutting promos or wrestling again.

Wardlow is a top draw for them and he can go weeks at a time without even being on TV. The value MJF has to n that company his priceless. He’s been apart of maybe half the great angles that AEW has produced. No one ever “feuds”. It’s always random match with MAYBE a 2 minute segment for a build.

Great matches are good but your whole show shouldn’t consistently be great matchups with no build. I didn’t think I’d have a problem with this until i did. I love the roster. Keith Lee and Swerve, MJF, Wardlow, Samoa Joe, Jay Lethal, these are just a few huge names in that company and none have an interesting dues going on at the moment, except maybe Jay Lethal if he’s still feuding with Darby Allin.

Nobody will remember a 5 star match. We remember MOMENTS. And AEW creates no moments unless it’s MJF. It would behoove Tony to hire writers and bookers imo. For f*** sake where is Miro!!?

Idk how to run a promotion so i won’t judge too much but the least i would do is identify my 8-12 guys i wanna build around and I’d have them on the show every week. That’s not hard.

Hitting on Logan Paul a tiny bit, he’s amazing. He’s either a super old school fan OR he absorbs info like a sponge. His work makes sense, LITERALLY NONE of his moves look bad and he’s great with the crowd. If he ever wanted to work full time he could be a top guy.

Speaking of Crown Jewel... Bayley took some rough spots in that Last Woman Standing match.. the KOD with the chair to the crotch and the spot off the top of the golf cart where she flew over the table and knocked the back of her head on the edge of the table. Wtf. I wanna say there was a third spot but it's not coming to me.

Hopefully she's good. They looked like they hurt.

Decent match, not great but good. Alot of younger wrestler love filing their matches with spots. That match didn’t need any of those spots. All it needed was for Bayley and Bianca to go to war.

The best example of this i think is the NXT Gargano VS Ciampa feud. To this day o think that’s the best storyline HHH has headed

Agreed.

Though i did love the ladder spot to get the W. That was very cool and I don't think I've ever seen it before. So kudos to them

Bandido just signed with AEW in the past week, and Ospreay isn’t signed at all.

I don’t love the way that Wardlow has been booked, but he actually has been on tv every week.

I’m interested that you think there is no build and are no feuds in AEW because I think the opposite. I feel like there are constantly stories being told, and an abundance of feuds. I feel like I get far more moments in AEW than WWE, but WWE has definitely improved.

The Swerve turn and Keith Lee’s position in it all along with The Acclaimed.
Jungle Jack’s revenge tour against Luch and Christian.
P-P-P-Powerhouse pursuing the TNT Title from Wardlow and tension with Samoa Joe.
Starks and Page setting their eyes on the Eliminator tournament, and being potential opponents for MJF after Full Gear.
Potential Death Triangle break up with Fenix and PAC seemingly at odds.
Ring of Jericho/Daniel Garcia/BCC tension.
Hayter/DMD tension.
Orange Cassidy open challenges.

These are all things that I care about seeing on my television plus MJF, obviously.

In WWE, currently, the only thing that seems to matter at all is the Bloodline stuff with Sami Zayn. The Logan Paul match was awesome though. He just needs to find his character on the mic, and he could be a future champ.

I guess that’s the subjectivity of it all though. They say wrestling is like a buffet, and not everything is for everyone.

Austin Theory just failed a cash in on Seth Rollins for the US title

No doubt it goes down in history as the worst cash in attempt ever considering it wasn’t even a world title and he lost

Clearly shows Triple H has no confidence in Theory as a top guy which isn’t surprising considering how he booked him in NXT.

I just think his gimmick is so stupid. The dude seems to have the traits needed to be a pretty solid if not high card guy at some point. But he was pushed too hard/too fast under Vince with a terrible character and has now been buried by Trips instead of changing his character up.

He's still very young and very promising. Removing the briefcase will give them the freedom to reset his character if that's what H wants to do.
I agree he needs a new gimmick. His entrance sucks and his phone gimmick has been done better (Tyler Breeze).. take him off TV for a few months and redesign his character.

Some of these “feuds” just aren’t feuds to me. AEW does this a lot where they call something a feud after MINIMAL interaction and a lot of the feuds just make no sense.

The Luchadaurus Jungle Boy stuff was rushed and they start stopped it one time before actually pulling the trigger again. And to my knowledge there still isn’t a good reason why LS turned on Jungle Boy. They wanted to break them up for no reason. They lost the titles but it’s not like the way they lost stoked any intrigue at all. There was no story. They lost to Lee and Swerve and boom, no LS is mad and leaves his best friend for Christian. Has there been more story given to make this make sense? I honestly have missed the last 2 weeks so idk. There is no story in “we lost, so now I’m with Christian.” Was Jungle Boy eating all the pins, which made LS think he’s better than him? Like WHY is LS so against Jungle Boy now. It can’t just be because they lost.

They are doing well with the Jericho, Daniel Garcia stuff. I like the slow burn there of Daniel still trying to respect Jericho but clearly having a different mindset. My issue with that feud is the logical endgame is Garcia beats Jericho at some point but oops, he’s the ROH champ so there’s no way he’s losing any time soon. So it’s like where is this going?

Death Triangle faction is dead in the water to me. None of the guys can work an solid match. They are all moveset guys. None have ANY psychology at all. And this is coming from a guy who think Fenix is the best high flyer they got. None of their matches ever have meaning or story. I would give a shit about death triangle breaking up if i was ever given a reason why they came together in the 1st place. Were we given background to that relationship that i simply missed? To my memory i do not ever remember them cutting a promo explaining how and why 2 Mexican wrestlers teamed up with a random UK guy. They all just randomly showed up one day saying they were death triangle.

Orange Cassidy open challenges aren’t a story but ngl his matches are fun. It’s not good work tho, but the matches are usually fun. His moveset is brutal for me to sit and watch but i do like the character, it’s just he hasn’t developed any more of his character since his debut. Is there a reason he’s so non-chalant in the ring? When is an opponent ever gonna use his style against him? He’s obviously under the protection of Tony Khan but he’s another guy that has no story or character development. We are just supposed to like him because he’s different. I can’t really get into that. Richocet has the same issue in WWE. Yeah your moveset is fun and Richocet is actually 2x the worker Orange Cassidy is but he has no character. Your character can’t just be “im a cool dude so cheer me.”

These are all my opinions. Just wanted to expand on my comments

I guess I’m summary there are stories in AEW but they are all either surface level with little thought, or they are disjointed and illogical or they just aren’t entertaining in the least.

I am more of a casual fan. I’m going to like a fire promo or a funny moment more than im going to like a 4 star Fenix VS Hangman match. So there’s so context to my likes and dislikes. Imo the Regal and MJF promo cut 2 weeks ago is the best promo segment they’ve ever done. There’s not enough of that since Cody left.

Yeah, I can see that. I feel like if Hunter really hated him, the guy wouldn't be seeing any TV time. And he's one of the NXT guys who rose later on. All these wrestlers who were in NXT under Trips are getting the gimmicks back which fans fell in love with. Like Nikki Cross. And bringing back Mia Yim.

I really can’t think of any examples of this. Could you provide some?

AEW definitely has some smaller midcard feuds, but I consider that a good things and something that WWE is sorely lacking.

The Luchadaurus Jungle Boy stuff was rushed and they start stopped it one time before actually pulling the trigger again. And to my knowledge there still isn’t a good reason why LS turned on Jungle Boy. They wanted to break them up for no reason. They built to that break up for nearly a year focused mostly on the Jack/Christian aspect, but yes, Jack had been the one eating the pins.

Also, prior to Christian managing them, they had achieved nothing of significance. With him, they won gold. Makes sense that Luch would listen to Christian.

They’ve also been selling the fact that Christian is a manipulator.
Why can’t he lose any time soon? I agree the Garcia ROH title win is a little ways off, but right now they’re building dissension by having Guevara take the spot as Jericho’s right hand man and getting a spot in the title match.

They’re even giving Sammy the same matches Garcia had with Danielson.

They’ll probably have Garcia go through Guevara before he gets to Jericho.

Death Triangle formed about two and a half years ago when PAC was feuding with Orange Cassidy and the Best Friends.

To each their own regarding match style, but the three are widely considered to be some of the top in-ring workers in the world.

The Lucha Bros sometimes lose me in their tag matches, but PAC is just all-around great with not only the moves, but the psychology as well.

His matches with OC for the All-Atlantic Title were great for me.
Orange Cassidy open challenges aren’t a story but ngl his matches are fun. It’s not good work tho, but the matches are usually fun. Again, to each their own regarding match styles, but OC is another guy that’s widely respected for his in-ring work.

He’s also one of the most character driven wrestlers around right now. He just completed a multi-year journey of chasing gold and coming up short just to finally win the big one against a long-time rival.

I think open challenges are a good way to keep a guy active and over while you build to their next real feud.

Ultimately, I don’t think AEW is geared toward you. A lot of their in-ring styles don’t seem to match your taste.

Still, I think you’re underselling their story telling, and I think that’s because you’re a casual fan (your words).

If you’re not watching every week, you’re going to miss some of the long-term storytelling they do.

Many of the stories being sold had subtle seeds planted months ago, and they slowly grew it to the feud we see now. Some of them are surface level, sure, those are the midcard/smaller feuds like WarJoe against The Embassy or The Acclaimed against The Varsity Athletes.

Quite frankly, pro wrestling is a very subjective form of entertainment. AEW provides much more of what I’m looking for than WWE, but I still watch WWE because they have some entertaining stuff, too.

Sami Zayn is the most over guy in wrestling right now, and I watch every week just to see what he does next. I’m also a big Rollins guy.

They’ve rebuilt some characters in a great way recently (Gunther, Sheamus, KO), but they still have the tendency to ignore everything that isn’t the main event. Nothing else is really going on outside of Bloodline/Brutes and Bayley/Bianca (which shouldn’t even still be going since Bayley keeps losing clean).
